Hello everyone! I bought my 06 wk 3.7L at auction for a steal about 6 months ago. I had my engine light up a couple weeks ago with cylinder 5 misfire! The first thing I did was change the plugs and when I did I noticed that the coil boot on #5 had oil on the bottom as well as the plug. I swapped boots with #1 and got the codes reset. I noticed the rpm's did not die at the same range as before but now has a rough idle and starting acceleration. I bought a new coil boot for #5 and swapped #2 to #1......still getting cylinder 5 misfire! I also seafoamed the whole engine...ie...gas/booster/throttle body, that helped with power but not the misfiring.....any ideas would be awesome!!

Did you move #5 coil to another plug?

Yes, when I changed spark plugs I moved the #5 coil to #1 and drove about a week before replacing the original #5 boot with a new one.

sounds like the coils and plugs are ok....

o2 sensor or cat is what I suspect....but could also be a fuel injector, exhaust valve, poor compression in that cylinder or a bad computer

eh... your heads are going to need to come off. IIRC there is a tsb on 05 and 06 libertys with the 3.7 reguarding replacing and lapping in new intake valves due to carbon buildup. You could try a solid decarb, get the motor flamin hot, drive around in 2nd with your rpms higher (3500-4500) once you have accomplished the hot engine then you want to use your seafoam or mopar combustion chamber cleaner you want to suck it in at a decent pace so as to not burn it all off as your doing it, then shut the vehicle off as soon as your can is out. Let it sit overnight then start it up and take it out for another hard drive. Then inspect for results. The last one I saw doing this the head had to come off (service contract only covers whats broken, but if you were to do it I would suggest doing both while you have it torn apart).

i had a cylinder 2 misfire and it was a dirty fuel injector

Thx everyone! I am going to take it in this weekend and hopefully its just a bad injector or something cheap!
