QL Warning Message on EVIC Today

While parking at work from my morning commute, I raised up the jeep to kill a few minutes before I went in.

I raised it up to OR2 and the light just blinked an I got a message on the EVIC.... "please wait. Quadra Lift system cooling down"

Wat? Is 24 degrees outside. I checked the site and found this...

Air Suspension Over Temperature Message in the Electronic Vehicle Information Center - When the air suspension compressor has to run for a significant period of time or the air suspension system is being used a lot by the driver, the compressor may need to cool down. This is normal and should not require service. There are times when the system will need to make up a significant amount of air. This can occur with large changes in ambient air temperature or if service has been done on the system and lost air has not been replaced.

A message will be displayed on the EVIC indicating the compressor is cooling down and there will be a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) set. The DTC in the ASCM module does not necessarily indicate service is needed. If the EVIC message and DTC occurs often, it may be an indication of a leak in the system.

Still can't get OR2.....just blinks. Granted yesterday was in the 50s and today was in the 30s so the write up makes sense but has anyone else gotten this message yet?

Same thing happened to me. There is a fault code stored now, dealer will have to erase it. It happened to me and once it was cleared it never happened again.

Do you recommend taking it in to clear it? I guess better stated, is the blinking non-functional OR2 because the fault isn't cleared?

This part of the explanation confuses me. If this is a closed system...how does it make up a significant amount of air? I understand that temperature affects the pressure within the system but I'm a little confused by "making up air." Makes it sound like its drawing air from the outside.

Understand this was probably translated from German (Continental AG makes the system) so the term "air" may be generic. I think what they mean is depending on conditions a large amount of gas needs to be moved from the reservoir to the bladders in the shocks. If the system is low on nitrogen it may never be able to fully "charge" the bladders and get the vehicle to the QRII height. It's a simple trip to the dealer, they have the tools and the instructions on how to recharge the system.

You will need to have the dealer clear it, with these sytems they can reach a point where they will shut down or limit movement if they reach a high temp limit. It's a safety type thing for the system. I wouldn't read too much into it, mine was cleared in about 5 minutes and it's never happened to me again. I have over 7,000 miles on my Laredo and no issues what so ever with QL.

It has nothing to do with ambient air temp, it's all about how much it's used in a short period of time. The air motor will reach a point where it's getting too warm and shut down to protect itself. Don't worry you wont become stranded or "Without" a suspension as some have tried to state. Once it cools down it should work normally again, but in a rare situation you could store a code and need to have it cleared. Mine wasn't being used when it did this, so I can't explain why it happened. I know of 3 other friends that have QL, 1 of them had the exact same issue. Dealer cleared it and nothing to report since.

I have found this happens when airflow is restricted, I have been in the garage several times and this has happend, just backed out into the open area and it works fine.

Stix and kfc,

What are your build dates? A local dealer told me that QL was on restriction briefly in January, while they switched QL control modules. According to this dealer, the overheating message was tied to the control module. This is the only place that I've seen that info, so not sure if its true, but it's possible that the latest builds don't have this issue. I know I've personally seen fewer accounts of it on the boards lately.

It's a closed system, reduced airflow is not an issue as it never sucks in outside air, it's totally self contained. besides, even if it was there's plenty of air in your garage or else you would pass out from asphyxiation.

I thought all fault codes automatically erased after a certain period of time...
