Transmission Problem (need help!)
Hello all, very helpfull community, i hope somebody helps me too..

Two weeks ago i bought a Jeep Grand Cherokee CRD 2007 (RHD) and i love the car. The problem is with the transmission, any time and any condition when driving, transmission would get stuck on a gear and wouldnt shift. the manual shifter would not work, it wont get fixed until i turn the ignition off and back on, it's normal. I do not have and engine lights or any faults. I havent gone to the service yet. I feel like it gets stuck on the third gear but not sure...

The bigger problem is i live in cyprus north where not a lot of pro technicians and service garages are around, they have obd scanners and basic service tools but this problem seems to be more complicated.

So i need your opinions and experiences on this, thank you very much :)

If you are stuck in 3 gear then it is in a so called "LIMP" mode. That is not a normal condition. In such a case you must have MIL light. If you do not get MIL light then MIL lamp is death. Do you have that light before you start the engine. Go to the garage and get the fault codes. Then we will know more. But just to be shure change oil and filters in transmision. If problem persist then there is more problems. As I said without codes we are in dark. So try to get the codes from your local mechanic who have OBD tool.

Thank you, mil light is working there's no problem with it, i see it when i turn the ignition on and when i turn the engine on it goes away. I will be able to go to the service next week, is there a way i can reset my transmission ecu myself? does getting stuck on the third gear and getting stuck on any gear have different meanings?

Re: Transmission Problem (need help!)
lots of times your symptoms point to the shifter itself.

pulling the codes from the computer might help; the other issue is OBDscanners cannot get the DEEP codes. scanner will show a P700 trans....but you need to then get into TCM to see specific codes. P700 only tells you there is a deeper code. far as I know only a DEALERR tool called starscan can pull those.

anyway see post 6 in my link. for a few dollars its worth a try. hopefully you can find some cleaner in cyprus.

once you clean the shifter, which is done with the negative terminal removed, you should be good to go.

see this thread:

Re: Transmission Problem (need help!)
Right. Only dealer scanner can clean TCM codes(unfortunately). But still if there is no MIL light then there is no problem found by PCM so no codes. Still check with the dealer. And as I suggested in my previous post - change transmission oil and filters.
Edit: Check this: it is for 2008 model but try

Re: Transmission Problem (need help!)
Hello again, dealer is insisting that the problem is with the ECM and the shifter, asking me 800 euros for the part. There are more than three codes, they didnt tell me all but P0710 and P07xx two more i cant remember. I just realized something that the car would go into the limp mode more often in the mornings when i first start the car, and before it goes into the limp mode it feels like the gears are slipping. i'm having nightmares here, is it possible that some other transmission parts are going bad? like maybe the selenoids? i dont want to pay 800 euros and have the same problem again...

I tried to remove the bezel and clean it but mine is a pain in the ass to remove because of the t-swithch, so i only cleaned the connector cable and put it back on.. gonna try later again to remove the whole center console if i can...

i need your help people, slipping and power loss, then limp mode until restarting the car. transmission related, what might cause them except the bezel and control module?? before i go to the dealer again for the part it would be good to know some other extra things to check to save $$$.

thanks a lot this is really helping me..

Re: Transmission Problem (need help!)
plus, when this problem occurs, reverse gear won't work. it would go into reverse, rev up but the car wont move.. fyi.

Re: Transmission Problem (need help!)
There is good description how to remove the bezel on site. Also check the battery. If it's too old then there is possibility that there is not enough voltage to run electronic properly. WK's are picky about battery power.
