Shortage of WK2 panoramic sn roof?

My dealer called and said that he had good news and bad news.

Bad news was the Summit they ordered about 2 weeks before I ordered mine was being delayed because they say that Jeep ran out of the panoramic sun roofs. (I was going to swap him for the one I ordered if it came in sooner)

Good News was that the Summit I ordered didn't have the panoramic sun roof and was getting built right away. So he said instead of waiting 8 weeks I could see it in as few as 3-4 weeks.

Has anyone else heard this?

I wanted the rear seat entertainment for the kiddos. And I have had a lot of sun roof on many cars and could probably count on one hand how many times I have opened it up on all cars combined. But I have played and memorized the lines to every Disney movie in existence. Hence the need for the rear seat screen.

I haven't heard that but based on so many Summits on lots with DVD player it makes some sense.

If thats the case it wouldn't affect just the Summits. I would think everything would be back ordered now.

The first real batch of Summits to hit the dealer floors have the new 730N RHR Media Center and have the DVD....you should be able to find one on a dealer lot now anyway. The previous small batch of Summits didn't have the DVD but had the 430N RHB instead (some with polished wheels a few with bright polished wheels....many were sold orders).

Yep, he's still down there but now owned by same as Stew Hansen Dodge & Jeep. BTW... I've been informed that Dewy Jeep/Dodge & Stew Hansen and many other Dealerships (all brands) peppered around country are owned by a large outfit on West Coast that is owned by a mid-eastern company. I'm being very brief because this is "hear say" via multiple sources, but without fact. Have you or others heard similar?

There's been a couple discussions here before about the pano roof being a supply issue. That's why the pano option is no longer an option for the Laredo (can only get the single-pane roof option now, but could get pano last Fall), and why Limited now has an option to get a single-pane roof instead of the standard pano roof.

A "supply" issue//Pano SR. That's rich...

Well, being close (enough) to the situation, I can say that Chrysler doing their "rich launch" where 70% of JGCs are equipped with the multipanel SR is really stretching the supply base. Original estimates at project award (to suppliers) indicated that Chrysler would purchase 80k of these multipanel SR per year. Suppliers will tool up for this capacity and purchase components to support this level (usually +15% for peak demand conditions).

What is really going on is something where Chrysler is asking suppliers to expand capacity on the multipanel SR. What is really frustrating is the way Chrysler makes suppliers feel guilty by not meeting demand that is beyond capacity and not considering the premium costs involved to do so (overtime, premium freight, etc).

So - it sounds to me like Chrysler (who makes a lot of margin with the multipanel SR) needs to re-consider the number of cars that will be equipped with this SR - and still make a decent margin on the vehicle. One may say that most vehicles to this point have been equipped with the multipanel SR, and in some cases - the end consumer may not have really cared either way if they had that option.

Is there a supply issue on the multipanel SR for the WK2? Nope, the Tier 1 supplier has met every order in production since SOP, and is working toward allowing Chrysler to order more by increasing capacity that will otherwise be idle in approximately 12-16 months.
