2011 Touareg

What do you think of the redesigned 2011 Touareg. It doesn't look to bad.
They made quite a bit improvements, same type of options as the WK2, but a little more expensive.
Would you guys consider that if there was no WK2?
Also, you can get the 8-speed box and diesel if so desired.

Re: 2011 Touareg

I came out of an '06 Touareg pre WK2, and a ton of Audi's before that.

Loved the fit, finish, handling, off road ability, handling and reliability. Hated the pig of a V6, small rear cargo area, and even small back seat as older versions had a complicated method to fold down rear seats.

IMO, the new Touareg design style looks horrible, too rounded, too generic. +1 to the VW diesels though they come with a price premium. The new Touareg was not on my short list.

Re: 2011 Touareg

Interesting topic as I have considered posting the same thread. Haven't yet out of laziness. I literally just hung up with VW and they are running numbers for me. I have purchased my last three VW's from them including my current 08 GTI. I went in to their store last week for them to look at my car and put together numbers to buy my car. While they were looking at it what do you think they tried to do?? Sell me a Touareg. I told them I would have purchased a Touareg hands down if VW didn't remove all the off road capability with the redesign. They asked why I wanted one with it to which I answered with 'the same reason I bought a GTI over a Rabbit/Golf...cause that's what I wanted.' I left with the understanding they'd get back with me numbers on just buying my car and/or trading on a new Touareg. That was Wednesday and they are just now calling me back after I called them this morning and left a "WTF VM" Strike One...

Touareg pros- German Engineering fit and finish 8spd Full Panoramic roof (compared to semi full on JGC) Much more sophisitacted Nav Media system.
Cons- Premium gas, All Wheel Drive (not true 4x4) about $10k more for similarly optioned unit.

We'll see what 'putting together some numbers' play out with but I'm not holding my breathe. I like it but I would have to custom order mine and that is every bit of 2-3 months as they are supposedly in High demand and coming from Germany at that.
I need to make a decision though cause my Overland is supposedly going to arrive between the 15th-20th and that is a giant "?" I'm sure with the threads I've been reading about long shipping waits.

^JF, didn't realize the new Touareg wasn't a 4wd OR capable rig anymore. Prior version was solid in trail department. That's a deal killer alone IMO, too bad it's become just another crossover.

Re: 2011 Touareg

I wouldn't call it a crossover. It is capable just not on the same level as the JGC. Living in the flat DFW metroplex I'm questionning whether I need as much capability as the JGC offers. ugh..I dunno.

Last model off road

2011 (not sure if US version receives the air suspension)

I'm starting to think my main issue is visually the Touareg isn't as 'masculine' looking as the JGC and again the price factor.

Any Electrical Issue's with the Toureg ? a friends Toureg v8 has been in/out of the shop many times to fix electrical problems... All my audi's/vw's had electrical issues, some worse than others.....

Ditto.
No low range means it's dead to me.

I've driven the previous v6 and V10 diesel versions extensively..... fantastic vehicles, though I actually prefer the V6 diesel.

I nearly purchased a 4.2L V8 gas version prior to my WK.

I was real close to buying a 2011 Touareg TDI. Crunched the numbers and the Jeep made more sense.

Wait until your WK2 catches fire ..... breaks a conrod...... then the dash lifts up.... then the battery fails.... then your Nav unit turned out to be one you didn't order..... then you realise your spare isnt the same as the other wheels/tires!

Oh GASP!!!!!!!!

Toureg (not VW) has a terrible reputation out here. Lots of problems including electrical and yes trasmission. A buddy of mine was so frustrated he traded his in for a Buick Enclave.
