New Thule Rack Available Early April

Per Thule, a rack system will be available early April and here are are all the right components to install a rack on the new Grand Cherokee and MRSP:

460 - $174.95 available (Towers)
Kit 4019- $74.95, Will not be available until the beginning of April (WK2 Fitment Kit)
LB58- $79.95, available (Cross Bars)
544- $54.95, available (Locks)

No pictures, sorry. The parts have been previously reported but the release of the fitment kit has been pushed back from March 1, and prices are now being quoted.

Is it just me or does this seem way more $$ than the MOPAR crossbars?

MOPAR crossbars are around $200-235 which include locks.
Thule prices out to $385. Even if I already have load bars it would still be about $300.

And IMO, the MOPAR looks better than I assume the Thule will (assume these are still the typical square load bars).

So what's the deal with the pricing?

I have a friend that is trying to get me Thule at his cost. I'll be currious if its less than factory bars.

Where on the Mopar site do you find the crossbars? Does anyone have the link? For some reason I only see the Thule and Yakima racks.

I have a pair of Thule Sidearms on my wifes Subaru. If I get the Mopar crossbars, I will probably still need the Thule adapter crossbars to mount the Sidearm, right?

Here's a link to the part on the justforjeeps.com site:

http://www.justforjeeps.com/rerora.html

Their part number is 82212072AB and I think Mopar uses the same one.

It's not just you. The math worked out that way for me, too. :D

The pros/cons have been discussed here a bit, and amount to a few differences that may be important depending on your needs:

* A custom Yakima install such as from RackAttack provides greater spread between front and back bars. This could be important if you're mounting a large box or basket.

* The Yak crossbars would of course allow perfect compatibility with Yak accessories.

* The Yak system allows for longer crossbars, even extending outside of the rails. Some folks like this as it makes it easy to pop a bike onto a rooftop carrier. Some might even say that it makes it "effortless" :slapfight:

* The Mopar locks are not as robust as the Yak's. While all locks can be defeated by a determined scumbag, the Mopar lock implementation leaves a bit to be desired. However, I find them to be suitable for my modest security needs and limited use of rooftop transport to begin with.

That said, I have found the Mopar setup to work great for me, and I agree that it looks good up there, too. I also prefer the winglike aspect to the round bar of the Yak, but that is strictly due to my aesthetic and admittedly is more a victory of form over function since I rarely transport anything up there.

Both are good systems, just depends on your needs, your style, and your budget.

Good thoughts Cperez.
I actually like the fit/finish and look of the MOPAR racks on the roof. All I need them for is to clamp my Thule ski racks on top and it works great.

Here are pictures of the Thule Rack with 460R mounts and 47 inch Aero bars. Also shown is the 44 inch fairing. i like it a lot. No real noise to speak of.

Mofeen, can you share where you bought this set up and how much? I already have a Thule tube that needs mounting & this looks like it will work :)

I bought everything off Amazon except for the Vehicle Fit Kit 4019, which I got from RackAttack.com. Total cost of everything was around $375.

Mofeen
Are your Aero crossbars 47's or 53's, I ordered a set of 47's and they said they would be too short

Have there been any new systems out there for the 2011 or 2012 Cherokee? I am looking for a set to put a thule container up there and maybe a snowboard rack as well. Not sure if they would fit side by side on longer trips though.
