I saw Dan JGC's Jeep!

My dealer had a promo going today - if I participated (took a test drive) I could get a $25 gift certificate. So, what the heck, I stopped by the dealer.

Sitting there on the showcase floor was a beautiful Black Summit (V8, polished wheels) - just like Dan should be getting any day now.

OMG! This was actually my first look at a Summit in the "flesh" (well, in the "metal/leather, etc.") It was drop-dead gorgeous!!

No disrespect intended to those of you who posted pics - but pictures don't do it justice (the interior, in particular.)

Now I'm just bouncing off the walls waiting for mine!

Oh yeah - My "test drive" was limited to me just slobbering over the summit. I'll use my $25 certificate on the cargo bay liner.

Actually, I live a few miles East of the rail line that goes between JAX and MIA and based on the tracking I think I heard Don's Summit go by the night before last :)

The black w/saddle Summit has got to be drop dead gorgeous but I'm shocked someone in S. FL special ordered Black! Not exactly a hot climate color ;)

I have my test drive scheduled for the day I pick up my me Overland (next Tuesday, Black with Saddle and all the chrome).

I plan on handing the $25.00 gift card directly to the finance guy when he starts to try to sell me extras.

I hope the dealer has a good detailing team for that vehicle's eventual owner.

LOL!

Oh yeah - I also checked the spare well - I figured the spare is skinnier because they are tight on space, and indeed that is the case.

I'm asking the tire dealer about upgrading my spare too (to an LTX AT/2). The theory being that even if I have to drive on a skinnier spare, I want it to be as rugged as the other tires - in case I'm getting out of the back country.

You can call him Don, or you can call him Dan, just be sure to call him when his Summit arrives!

Actually exterior color doesn't make that much of a difference in a hot climate. Interior color does though - but the best thing to do is limit the amount of sunlight that enters and is absorbed by the interior. Hence the popularity of windshield sun shades here in hot Phoenix.

Re: I saw Dan JGC's Jeep!

Thanks....it is a very sharp combo for sure.

With respect to black exterior....I just really like the classy look of a black vehicle. I was gonna go with the bright silver but it was a bit generic of a silver...still good...but I wanted something a tad more distinctive of a silver. I had stopped in to a top notch tint shop and the owner mentioned that silver cars aren't really any cooler than a black one since there is black pigments (or at least dark pigments) in the silver so it doesn't reflect the sun rays as you'd expect but absorbs them like black...he said the only color he buys anymore is white (his vehicles often sit out in the open). He said a lot of people think silver won't absorb the ray but according to him they do. He said if you put a heat detector gun it will read about the same on a silver car as a black car....only white really reflects. He's been doing tinting for decades so I will take him at his word. I've never had my windows tinted so might do it on this Summit.

I wasn't a big fan of the wood color in the overland or the limited so when I saw the summit black olive wood I knew that was a better choice for me...and the only exterior colors are dark...brilliant black, rugged brown, mineral gray, and white gold. So, since I hadn't seen a rugged brown color and I knew I would like the black a tad better than the gray, I went with the black which ties in excellently with the Summit interior. I'm not sure at this point whether my second choice would be mineral gray or rugged brown....I'm betting that the rugged brown is gonna be a solid choice.

If I was gonna order that wasn't a Summit....I'm think a stone white (an excellent white color unlike the pearl colors out there) with the dark graystone interior Laredo X with pano roof, 20" wheels, V8, 4x4, with RHR and ACC.....but those options aren't available on a Laredo...alternatively a white Limited if they made the interior gray for it but they don't. Oh well.

MY SUMMIT IS ON THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER NOW!!!

I went into the dealership yesterday to pick one up too. They gave me a $25 AMEX.

They only had a RWD overlands & summits in stock... so I didn't even bother driving one. But I love that black olive wood... wish it was an option on non-summits.

Re: I saw Dan JGC's Jeep!

They had a Jeep making the rounds (promo tour) late last year that was parked at the local 7-11....no test drives but could look at it and ask questions. It was a black/black Overland so I parked my 2005 black/graystone Limited next to it to compare. They were handing out certificates to take to your local dealer for a test drive and get $50. I did that in December and mailed it in promptly....just got my $50 check yesterday....oddly the fulfillment company sent the $50 check via certified return receipt mail...odd to spend $5.54 on postage instead of just 44 for a $50 check that once cashed you'd know was received.....just odd.

Oops, I fat fingered that.....

I know the black issue on temp has been debunked a number of times and I've owned my share of them and have lived in AZ, TX and FL since '91 so I was being a bit tongue in cheek.

So I wonder if DAN has resisted the urge to drive by the dealership this evening......

If he's anything like me, he's in close contact with the dealer and will be there within the hour that the Jeep becomes available.

My saleswoman has already promised to expedite it once it hits the yard here in Phoenix. She also knows that I don't want any dealer badges, etc.

I'll say it again, I was absolutely stunned by the Summit I saw today - and this is after lots of W2Ks and plenty of Summit pictures.

Babbled about it all during dinner (much to long-suffering wife's amusement.)

Yep....haven't gone to the dealership yet....it is 45 minutes away and it includes a four story parking garage for inventory so pretty sure I wouldn't see anything even if it was there. I was hoping to get a call or email if it had arrived...but nope....the dealership has only contacted me ONCE since I placed my order and that was to tell me it was built and would be here on 3/17....the dealership is OK...not the best (although they have top notch facilities) and not the worst.

I do expect that it will be at the dealership by Saturday...not sure about dealer prep time.

netcoolery.....I agree, the Summit looks amazing in person. I'm hoping the interior is a bit cooler than with an all black interior. What's taking yours so long to get on a railcar??? I'd be chomping at the bit to get it rolling....how long to AZ? Mine took 8 days by train, not including the before and after railcar times....
