Key FOB Recognition Issue (Key not detected)

When I am using the push button start functionality and have the key-fob in my pocket, sometimes when someone leaves my car and closes the the door a message pops up saying the key is not detected??? I have to turn the car off and back on for the message to disappear. This only happens after the door closes, and the door has to be closed rather hard for it to occur. My only guess is that the impact from the door closing is resetting something in the proximity detection hardware/software???

Any ideas?

Mine did the same thing on occasion ... dealership replaced it and have had no issues since.

They told me Chrysler/Jeep has finally admitted to having some issues with its key systems... and the newer ones are much better, apparently. So far, so good.

We are on our third pair of keys.....these seem to actually work right. Make them replace 'em 'til they work the way they should. Bruce

Re: Key FOB Recognition Issue (Key not detected)

My dealer told me there is a known issue with a "dead zone" inside the GC where the keyfobs are commonly not detected. It just so happens to occur right about the placement of a right front pants pocket in the driver's seat, which is where my keyfob usually resides. I've seen the message a few times, usually I just take the keyfob out of my pocket for a minute and place it in a cupholder. The dealer thought that we might see a TSB on this at some point when Chrysler can figure out a good solution.

I keep mine in my left pocket and it happened once to me. I had to remove and re-seat the battery in the fob to get it to work again.

Does the Someone who has gotten out have the other key fob on their person? Perhaps the other key fob was the one that the vehicle had detected when you originally started it?

No, I have the only key FOB in my pocket. After seeing the issue I started messing around trying to find out where the "Dead zone" is. It appears to be, for me at least, from the edge of my driverís seat to the door so if I have my keys in my left pocket the issue comes up. I also realized that I don't have to shut off the car and turn it back on to clear the message, just open and close a door. -- I actually just got the Jeep back from getting the radio TSB performed and I believe they scanned for other updates and reset the computer. I haven't seen the key problem reappear since I got it back....so fingers crossed.

This happened to me yesterday. The key was not detected. I opened the door and pushed the button and Jeep started. Closed the door and message said that key left the vehicle. Opened door again, put in drive, closed door and away I went.

Makes no sense why the key would be detected with the door open and not closed???

I got the message this morning for the first time. I popped in a new battery into the fob and it worked. I checked the voltage of the old battery and it was 2.97 volts, so it don't think that was the problem. Maybe it just needed to be reset?

You can only get an accurate measurement of a battery when it is connected to a load. Even bad batteries will give you a correct reading on a voltage meter if they are not under a load.
