Stall while accelerating (5.7L)

Hi,

I was driving the other day, the Overland was pretty cold, but upon shifting out of park into drive I accelerated and the Jeep just turned off. I put it in park and started it up and everything was fine.

A week later I was reversing out of a parking lot and the same thing happened when I went to step on the gas while in reverse. I again put it in park, and started the vehicle up again, and was off.

I wonder what the issue could be? Anyone?

Has this happened after filling up and topping off the tank using 89 octane? Have you tried opening and closing the gas tank cap? Was it the same gas station you used previously? What brand?

I ran into a stalling issue and I'm doing some testing to see if it's the Exxon station I used to fill up the last couple of times. I noticed yesterday on the pump it said "Contains Ethanol". It was the first time I noticed it and not sure how long it's been there or if any others have the same sign.

I'm getting ready to go somewhere and hopefully I don't stall again after filling up from the same gas station. I stalled last time as I was about to pull into a parking spot and then I couldn't turn the wheel.

Do yOu let the rpms go down before shifting right after starting it?

It really sounds like you were in remote start mode.

Definitely not, the vehicle shuts off when u press on the brake to shift. I wish it was that easy.

Explain?

Does it stall as you're shifting or as soon as you press the brake?

Sounds like you remote start the car and press the brake, hence the engine turning off.

I had the same problem with my 5.7L prior to getting a tune. I believe it is the factory tune. Since getting on the dyno and getting a custom CMR tune, I have not had it occur again. Also, check all of your vaccum hoses to make sure you don't have any leaks. My experience was almost exactly as yours...I would get into the car, start it up and put it into reverse to pull out of the parking garage and it would cut out. However, I've actually had it cut out on the highway once, which was pretty scary.

Good luck...

Forgot to mention, are you turning the steering wheel at the same time this is happening? I was wondering if that had something to do with my experience, for I noticed that I was puting a load on the steering pump when pulling out of the garage. It could be that the rpms drop just enough to stall the engine while idling and increasing the load at the same time. My new tune has the idle increased to 700rpm...that may have corrected the problem.

I would recommend you get a Predator and pick a canned tune..you'll love the increased performance as well as the ability to adjust your idle and throttle response.

Sounds like you remote start the car and press the brake, hence the engine turning off.

Pressing the brake does not kill the engine after you remote start the engine. Pressing the brake and then pressing the start button is required to transition the vehicle from remote start mode to run mode. Pressing the brake while in remote start mode and trying to move the gear selector out of park will not allow the gear selector to move, as it is locked in the park position until you press the brake and the start button simultaneously to transition it to the run mode. For the gear selector to be able move out of park into reverse or drive requires that the car be in run mode.
