Rugged Brown Summit arrived - but I didn't buy it after all

A lot of regular readers will be surprised, since you knew I was pretty eager for the Summit

Phone rang at about 10:30 AM - the dealer said come over in an hour

Read over this forum one last time, to do things like get the checklist for stuff that should be with it.

I revisited a bunch of posts about the whole street tires coming with the ORA package and it got me pretty annoyed.

Left for the dealership in not the best of moods

First thing I noticed was that, sure enough, they had the Latitudes on 18" rims

Offered them $400 less than our previously agreed-upon price, since that's about what it would have cost me to upgrade to A/T tires.

Other than my saleswoman (who agreed with me), I got no sympathy from the Sales Mgr who said take it as agreed or he'd sell it to someone else

Left the dealership very pissed off and I won't be buying anything from them

So don't cry for me - it's all for the best. Enjoy your Jeeps.

Seriously? Not flaming or anything, but you knew ahead of time that's what every WK2 gets, didn't you?
I agree it's absolute BS that Chrysler is trying to pass off an AS tire as an AT tire, but it's been that way for a while now.
But knowing that, you should've negotiated that on the front end, or at the very least shortly after learning that's what tire would be on it. Not at the 12th hour.
No offense, but I don't blame the sales mgr for letting you walk, I would have too.

Not if you buy the "Off Road Adventure Group" - then they swap out to 18" wheels and they claim that they give you off road tires. But they don't - they put on the Michelin Latitude Tour tires which are street tires. Check the Michelin site - you'll see that they are rated 3 out of 10 for off-road.

For the record, I did not know when I placed my order that they were putting on a street tire. Considering that they are taking off the expensive Bright Polished Summit wheels AND charging $275 for the package .. it only seems fair that they should put real off-road tires on it.

I think you made a mistake getting so convinced that you had to have different tires.

A deal is a deal. It's not the dealership's fault you didn't do your homework. They did their part. You should suck up your pride and go buy that car before someone else does.

Although I think the price for what you get with the Summit is a ripoff especially when you don't get the nice 20" bright polished wheels. I don't really understand why someone buys the top of the line and then wants to also take it off road. Not hatin' on you, just personally don't understand it.

Can I ask what dealer you were going to buy it from? I might need to take a road trip. :p

At first I thought this was an April Fools joke....then I thought maybe you didn't like the color after all!

Sorry to hear that. Not a good day I suppose. I agree that it is odd that it doesn't include real off road tires AND you get a down grade on the wheels.

I will say this is a shocker and sad that it didn't work out for you...had been following tracking too....best wishes on what you decide to do next.

Well's it's obvious that I must have been very emotional. I mean, look at my post! You guys know me ... I don't normally post in single sentences per paragraph. Definitely not the calm, cool, collected guy you're so familiar with, right?
