Hey all thought some of you might (dis)like to see this.

Its from an interstate accident I worked a few days back.

The white vehicle was a WK2 and was struck head on by a wrong way driver.

EDIT: Fixed Links AND Worst injury was backpain. pretty incredible

I know many people always talk sh** about American cars, etc. From the looks of it, seems like the Cherokoee driver will walk away. (Luckily bo6th drivers wil walk away).

I will say this...My dad was in a nasty multi car accident last year in a 2003 Jeep Liberty. On an 8 lane busy roadway, Someone had clipped him from the rear right coner causing him to go over the middle divider and onto the opposite side with busy traffic. My dads car was hit 3 times....car was totalled! The entiure rear axle was ripped out, front end and rear were obliterated.

However, the front and rear seating compartment was 100% intact. My dad wallked away with a few bruises from the seat belt. Everyone at the scene of the crime, insisted that my dad is still alive because of his car. Had he been in a Japanese vehicle....(Rav4, etc). no shot!!!! I still have the pics of the Jeep on my phone, and I will post if no one believes me.

Needless to say, I had a 2001 Durango RT, which I am plannign on keeping, and I am buying a 2011 JCO. I'll always take my chances with an American SUV, espeically when it comes to my family!

Chrysler builds some safe products... I've smacked into 3 of their airbags...

'96 Cherokee (brand new), head on clip into an Isuzu Trooper took out 1/3 of my engine... vehicles both ended up 30 yards from each other, my bro and I both walked away, both vehicles were totalled.

'00 Grand Cherokee, Bronco ran a redlight and I smacked into driver's side door at 45mph, no time to slow down, spun me around completely 180 and was facing opposite direction... Bronco and Jeep both totalled, I walked away with a little whiplash, Bronco guy had broken arm and rib

'04 Ram 1500, Suburban pulled out in front of me blinded by a bush, and I slammed into him at 45mph, spun his car around completely, $10K damage to my Ram, I walked away with a slightly busted nose

You're very fortunate to have lived thru all of that. Though, I think I'd consider walking from now on. :)

Re: WK2 Vs wrong way driver

In my 2006 JGC I was driving on a highway cruising about 65mph in the far left lane when a piece of metal or wood flew over the concrete barrier and I ran it over with my passenger side front tire which caused the tire to explode ripped all through the front side of the car. Somehow my Jeep let me continue to have a bit of control of the car and was able to safely maneuver my car to the emergency lane on the left hand side. Caused a grip of damage on the Jeep but I am not sure how many other SUVs would allow me to be in some control of the car after basically a blow out and not roll over or any other scary outcomes that could have happened. Really ever since then I am a true believer in Jeeps and their safety.

I can’t seem to find the pictures but you just see a hole where the front end should have been.

Re: WK2 Vs wrong way driver

The strong IIHS ratings for the WK2 were a significant factor in my purchasing decision. It is built amazingly well for impacts on all sides and this head-on accident is a perfect real life example. I the ad agency for Chrysler/Jeep should be pushing the safety angle on their next batch of advertising; at least that's what I'd request if I were the marketing director. When there are discussions of weight, i.e. "the WK2 is too heavy...", we should consider what that extra weight is for by looking at these accident photos.

Actually since some you mentioned it. If you look closely there is a third car between the silver volvo and the median. Its a dark blue rav4 or something in that size class. The front end is gone as it T-Boned the Volvo after the Volvo clipped the Wk2 head on. The Rav4 Was thrown ontop of and is balanced on the center concrete median.

Backpain for the GC driver or all 3 cars?
