Damaged during shipping?
Little upset myself tonight. Got back from my friends body shop and he swears its been hit. Truck is 1 day old and has 6 miles on it yesterday. I told him ive been tracking it and the only time it sat was in Newark for 4 days. This past weekend. It was supposed to be on the first carrier last friday 24 hrs after it came of the rail but suddenly it got bumped to Tuesday so who knows. I brought it to him to check the hood alignment as it was off. I didnt say a word and as soon as he walked over he noticed the front end right away. His main guy came over and the same thing went right over to the same spots. Mind you its not gonna cost me anything to have it fix so its not like hes looking for work. I cant tell myself minus the hood is a little off, but he thinks it got bumped in shipping. Im not even going to bother bringing it up with the dealer because A the didn't know or B they will absolutely deny it. I cant see any paint lines at all but he said all the lines between the fenders, doors and quaters don't match up at all. So we discussed it a bit and im going to look at some on the lot and see if they are all that way first. He said its possible quality control isnt that great but he cant figure out how its that off.
So hoping for the best, worst case he has to readjust the fenders, doors, hood. He said the rear quaters have some waves in them but I will deal with them as I cant see them. For me I cant really tell so its been christened already. Any one ever notice touch up work upon delivery?

I'd return that Jeep for a full refund immediately.

Re: Damaged during shipping?
Short story.

I worked in finance for a FLM dealership when I lived in Texas years ago. At the time though I was a salesperson. It was 2002 or so and it was the first year of the Mercury Murauder. It was the dealerships first one, and it was an order, and needless to say at the time there was a lot of hype around it.
Well wouldnt you know it but as it was being PDI'd the tech backed into a lightpole, the kind with a concrete base on the bottom 3 or 4 feet, and drug it across the passenger side door. Management immediately sent it to the body shop and nay a word was uttered after it came back. They called the customer, he came and picked it up, and unsuspectingly drove it home. A trained eye could tell it had been painted, but he couldnt.
Maybe it did or maybe it didn't happen to you, but it does happen. I know firsthand. Hopefully that's not the case for you.

So I dont think this is a worthless thread just because it doesnt have pictures, as pictures themselves would be worthless because its hard to tell to begin with.

Re: Damaged during shipping?
at least bring it up to the dealer and see if they can work something out for you...

So sorry to hear Scittb! You waited so long and now you have to deal with such issues. Personally, I would return the Jeep and demand a full refund. I know you really wanted it but you will always know it wasn't right. Who knows what really happened and there may be other issues yet to be discovered.

Re: Damaged during shipping?
You absolutely must bring this up with the dealership. Also, i suggest not letting your body shop guy do anything until you do bring it up with the dealer. I'm not sure if you bypassing the dealer will have any affect on warranty. This is a new vehicle and covered by a factory warranty. Take it back to the dealer immediately. Bring your body shop guy along to point out the suspected damage, but at least let the dealer see what you are talking about.

Re: Damaged during shipping?
I have one more friend with another shop. I'm going over there this evenin and then I will decide what I will be doing. there is no internal damage i.e. bent fender mounts or any hadware that looks like it's been loosened or removed so worst case it's not like it's been a hard hit. you would be able to see the nuts have disturbed paint where the socket would grab. so I'm hoping it's all cosmetic. if they're were tons of these on the lot I would be over there in a second making a stink but there not a heck of alot mineral gray summits to be had and I'm not waiting another three months again! so before I make a stink with thr dealer I really need to make sure it's something and not bad craftsmanship.
so I will know this evening after te second opinion what to do.

Re: Damaged during shipping?
For instance when i got myGTo i didn't think about it, but later on like 6 months later for gigles i had a friend run vin hystory in GM computer... be hold "refinish of the front end" with i believe under an hour of claim. So probably got bumped on the boat.
I never knew, but i was pissed to say at least. Since when you are buying a new car, you don't expect a dealer to sell you a repair. If the jeep was indeed wrecked that required body work someone had to pay for repair. if the trucking co or dealer hiding the fact- well i would pressure them. However if it is as minor as in my case was, i just took my business else where. ( 5 years later about 30k in repairs; from replacment engine-GM fault, to 3x all the suspension bushes, springs, struts, 3 set of speakers, latches, BCM, etc etc- not gm fault through, but covered by GM extended warr., another dealer treated me right). If you happy with the jeep is one thing if that bugs you-make them take the car back, but in any case i would hold the dealership responsiable. if body man can see something hairy, what is the purpose of PDI?! not like anyone getting their tire pressure set correctly anyways!
good luck, for whatever it worth, enjoy your ride.

Re: Damaged during shipping?
yeah I dont think it was wrecked by any means if at all. Like I said I am taking it for a second opinion first. I dont even want to say it truly even had transport damage yet as it may just be the way it was made. So I will have some more info tonight. If friend number 2 says there are issues then off to the dealer tomorrow and see how to rectify the situation if there is a situation. Like I said if anything its just adjustments to the front clip. The only other issue we can see is and I finally see it this morning, a very light vertical crease just forward of the fuel cap. I think that is manufacturer stamping issue that they never caught. That one im not even going to bother with since I can barely see it and I dont want the truck to now have to require filler and new paint. Not worth it. Its not a BMW so it not gonna be perfect either.

Re: Damaged during shipping?
Sorry to hear about it, and hope everything works out for you. I would say something to the dealer.

That said, I was once told by a dealer that they do not have to disclose damage to a vehicle unless it exceeds a certain $$ amount; each state has a different law.
