Diesels May Be Coming!
Today's Detroit News quotes Jeep chief Jack Manley as saying diesels may eventually be offered in the United States:
Manley said Jeeps with diesels could be offered in the United States in two or three years. Most Jeeps sold in Europe have diesels and there is demand in Canada. Manley said a U.S. business case can be made if the technology cost to meet emissions standards can be spread over large volumes in numerous markets.

Re: Diesels May Be Coming!
Exciting news. They are being vague in the article, but I hope they actually sell the diesel in the US. Jeep's mileage numbers have to be near the bottom of the pile for a mainstream high volume brand, so one can safely assume CAFE regulations and fines will be heavily weighted in the business case.
I am planning on replacing my WJ in 18 months or so with either a WK2 or an X3. I am really just waiting for one these two to become available with a diesel before I pull the trigger. I would be willing to wait a little longer for a diesel WK2 and stick with the Jeep brand for my 4WD winter vehicle.

That would be great. I wouldn't trade mine just for a diesel, but if they would continue to offer one, it would be a huge attraction.

I hope this happens sooner rather than later.

That would be pretty sweet.... imagine what fun things could be done with a diesel! Tons of torque and possibly programmers galore for them.... it deff would roll some coal!
