OEM Mopar Receiver Hitch Install

First time poster here. Got a 2011 70th Anniv Grand a week ago in the Bronze Star Pearlcoat (love it btw). This is my 6th jeep and 3rd Grand.

I picked up the Mopar Receiver Hitch from my dealership this week, and surprise, surprise - the instructions are a bit lacking... Has anyone done this install? My biggest problem is taking off the rear bumper/fascia. There are quite a few fasteners that look to be a one-way type (as in I'll break it trying to get it off). Any help or suggestions would be most welcome. :)

Re: OEM Mopar Receiver Hitch Install
I just installed one this week and it isn't too bad of an install. Her is the link for the installation guide for the hitch. (hXXp:// Just replace the XX with "tt". The rear facia will need a plastic trim tool to unsnap the top facia cover just below the rear lens on both sides. The wheel trim will need to be removed and it is fairly simple, 2 plastic rivets to cut off and some plastic retaining clips. The link I sent to you will have a pdf file to look at for the install. Overall, it took me about 1 1/2 hours to do. You will also need a 21mm socket to remove and install the bolts for the receiver.
Let me know if you have any questions, I will try and answer them for you.

Thanks Car,

Your kit is a bit different than mine. I didn't have the rivets listed in my parts kit and your directions are slightly different (more descriptive) as well. I'll get some rivets and hopefully snag a trim tool somewhere.

I was thinking about doing the same. Just read the instructions. Looks like you have to remove the entire bumper section. I was hoping you just remove the lower facia.

How difficult was cutting the facia and fitting the bezel? Also, how did you remove those plastic rivets (and do you need a rivet gun to replace)?

Re: OEM Mopar Receiver Hitch Install
I have unsuccessfully tried to do this on my own twice. I'm stuck at getting the bumper off the body. The fasteners on the upper sides below the tail lights are giving me fits and I'm afraid I will end up breaking something.

And yes, you will need to cut/break the plastic rivets. I bought a plastic rivet gun that comes with 40 assorted rivets from Harbor Freight. It cost about $15:

Good luck. :)

Re: OEM Mopar Receiver Hitch Install
I've thought about doing this for awhile, too. Changed my mind after reading this...

Great post by 4th Cherokee:

He used Hidden Hitch from He helped me out a lot with pics so I could decide if it is the look I can live with. It looks great, no bumper removal, and the wiring is dead simple compared to what you will go through with the MOPAR wiring. (dealer scan tool, $$, etc)

Just food for thought. Good luck with whatever install/hitch route you take!

The Hidden hitch hangs down way to far. The price is nice.
