Wheel horror story with a happy ending.

So back in February I came across a set of factory 20" wheels and tires on craigslist for $650. The tires probably didnt even have 1000 miles on them. The first thing that came to my mind was STOLEN but I went to take a look anyway (of course not by myself).

Turns out they were from an Overland that Chrysler had customized for the Sema show, and a guy from the company was told to "get rid of" the leftover parts.

I was storing the wheels at work until the snow/salt melted away. Last week i was moving them to put on my jeep and one tumbled over face down on the cement floor. It chipped the paint off in several spots and looked TERRIBLE. I said many bad, bad words out loud. I had them back up on craigslist as damaged and then came across a company here in MI that does PVD Chroming. I broke down the tires and went to drop them off to get chromed and found that they had a bunch of stock ones there that customers traded in. That is where i found the needle in the haystack. A set of polished Summit wheels!! I traded them my painted wheels and $300 for the polished ones. Still not as flashy as that beautiful Summit Edition...but getting there!

And for the record...the Meguire's wheel polishing tool is pretty sweet!

I need to start looking for a set of 20" Summit wheels.... for my city driving. My 18" mopar blacks are good for my off road travels.

Maybe I can find someone that wants to trade some 20" summit wheels for my chrome Overland 18" wheels (with some cash in there as well).

How do the polished factory Summit wheels look compared to 20" Overland wheels with PVD chrome?

Put a word in with your dealership sales manager too...mine had a guy pick up his summit and put the mopar chrome 20" on right away. They were trying to track him down for me but he already sold them. They were keeping a lookout for me but i had them cancel obviously. The price on the wheels from the dealer is still N/A...im sure they will be available this summer.

The PVD looked sweet. Obviously a lot more shine to them over the polished. They do them in bright and black chrome. Check out uswheelexchange.com...they do all kinds of newer OEM wheels.
