Looking at replacement Grilles

So, I just bought a 2001 Grand Cherokee the other day and I knew I would have to get a new header panel (cracked), grille (cracked), and headlights (you can't see through them). So I've got my lights picked out, found the header panel cheap, but the grilles... uhhh....
It seems like everyone I've found looks more like the grille off a hummer (the openings are different than stock). Any opinions on these? I just can't picture it on a Jeep and then when I see it, the picture is really small and blurry. Does anyone have one? I'm thinking I'd probably prefer a more factory styled one, but maybe in black as opposed to chrome. Any suggestions? My WJ is a kind of slate blue color.
I guess what I'm saying is lemme see your aftermarket grilles.
Huh. Coulda just wrote that in one sentence.

Please don't get the hummer looking grille.....please.....

Stock grille and then if you want, I'd do mesh or inserts. Here's what I have:

It's not for everyone, but I like it...it's my 3rd one actually...had one on my Wrangler and on my XJ Cherokee. Mr.Grille has them, you can google that name to find the site if you're interested.

Lotsa guys do mesh and it looks VERY good too...I just like the extra protection from crap getting to the radiator. I had 2 instances where pebbles and misc crap put holes in my radiators. Since I started using these, I've had no issues.

Tony,

Is that a replacement grille or just a mesh insert? My 2004 WJ is a working vehicle and I get all sorts of opportunities to have stuff flying through my grill (not a good thing)...yours chrome looks good without being too flashy...like that cheap Hummer grill replacement.

Can you give me a part number for your grill or insert and where you purchase it?

Re: Looking at replacement Grilles

Mine is a stock grille with billet aluminum inserts installed...you can find them here:
http://www.mrgrille.com/index.php?op...1260&Itemid=54
I had to call or e-mail because they didn't list my year on the site, but they did carry them. I think it cost me about $100...but they are indestructible. With all the crappy weather, salted roads, and abuse they take, it's never shown age. This one is only a few months old, but I've been running this particular brand insert now for years and years.

Yep, I see what you mean about not listing my model year. Thanks for the quick response...I will call them and see what I can get for my 2004.

Love the loook of your billet grill inserts. Can you tell us a little about the installation? Was it a "bolt on" or did you have to do some drilling, etc. to install?

TJXJWJ 05-18-2011 09:45 AM

Re: Looking at replacement Grilles

Nah, no drilling at all. I took the factory grille off (super easy to do) and laid everything out on my work bench. Each insert can be installed by simply using black zip ties to attach it to the stock black plastic slats. It's a breeze. There is a way you can bolt them on, and there is drilling involved for that method, but like I said before, this is the 3rd Jeep I've done this to and black zip ties do the trick. You can't see them and I've never had one break.
