Electronic Cut Off

Has anybody ever installed a electronic cut off exhaust? I was thinking about doing it but want to see if anybody else has. I'm probably going to do it either way just would like to see some videos first if possible.

I am actually about to pull the trigger on this myself. I have an exhaust leak and figured now would be the best time to do it. I know there are a couple major companies that make some good looking units. There is someone on here that does have it on their ride. Only issue I have heard is just slight build up of suit on the butterfly that just needs to be cleaned from time to time.

Re: Electronic Cut Off

I have one on my Turbo Golf.

Not hard, can be expensive, contantly falls apart........but I still love it.

My butt/brain dyno says that I gain 200hp when I hit the button, but Mustang dyno shows I gain a few on low end and lose on high end.

I attempted this on my WK, but exhaust guys put the muffler in wrong and I have no room to put it in.

I have had Badlanz and QTP, They are similar, but QTP seals better. Both came with riduculous sized switches. I ended up making my own with a Double pole/Double Throw switch (its not a porn move).

Re: Electronic Cut Off

I have seen NA vehicles loose torque to wide open exhaust. Turbo vehicles, sure the more flow out the exhuast the faster the turbine can spin. On my turbo escort, I had a glasspack setup that I could remove and bolt up a straight pipe, just a straight through glasspack (3") I could feel the difference, and rarely had it installed.

Furthermore, if you do it make sure you get a good one, I have just heard leaks from cutouts and leaks sound horrible. I would rather have a smooth mellow sounding exhaust all the time than ungodly loud and horrible sounding ;) just a personal preference.

If I was to do it I would get a good one. I don't want to loose the quietness of the stock exhaust because it will just attract more attention from cops to my window tint, but I do want to be able to have a louder exhaust from time to time.
