Aftermarket wheels

I have spent quite a bit of time online recently researching 18" & 20" custom wheels for the WK2, trying to stay around the $1,000. range for a set of 4. I do favor the clean, five-spoke machine or chrome look, and while the 20" SRT replicas and stock 20s are nice, I'm looking for something a little different.

I'm sure those of you who have searched online have experienced the frustration and difficulty of finding something even close to matching the WK2s +56mm offset, let alone the correct bolt pattern. I recently found several wheels I like, and thought I'd share the discovery.

For 20" fans, take a look at the Boss Motorsports (American Eagle) 326 20X8.5" wheel, available in chrome and black chrome, with a +40 offset (which extends wheel outwards only about 5/8" beyond stock) and 6.263 backspace. Very few aftermarket wheels are available with this much offset.

For 18" fans, have a look at the 18X8" Boss 304, available in machine/black, silver and chrome, with +40 offset and 6.013 backspace.

Boss has numerous other wheels, in styles that may appeal to you and fit properly. Check 'em out. They list complete specs on each wheel they offer.

I also like the fact that these wheels are American made products.

Another nice 18" five-spoke design is the MB Wheels Gunner 5 from Discount
Tire. It has the proper lug pattern, and is available in anthracite or chrome. The offset is +25, so it will protrude outward about 1-7/16" beyond stock. This wheel is also available in 20," I believe, but I'm not certain if it's available with the same offset.

I have dealt almost exclusively with Discount Tire for more than 20 years, and have found that they often have the lowest prices and can order just
about any wheel or tire combination you are interested in, even if they don't normally carry it. Good people to deal with.

Re: Aftermarket wheels

The Boss website is www.bossmotorsports.com

If anyone else has seen or purchased a particular set of aftermarket custom wheels they like, and that fit the WK2, please share your thoughts with us, including pictures or recommended websites to explore. That would be very helpful to many of us who are searching for just the "right" wheel for our rides.

Thanks.

I have a question. Can I move my TPMS to aftermarket wheels so I dont lose that functionality?

Re: Aftermarket wheels

^^^^^^ yes most aftermarket wheels accomodate the tpms.

I would advise getting a tpms rebuild kit from napa or opther to replace the seals whenever the tpms are moved. the kit is about 5 bux per wheel. the bigger tire places also sell them but usually for 8 or more each wheel.

If your having a tire shop mount your wheels they'll have to install new one's on the new wheels, You can't switch them from wheel to wheel. they will break .they only go for about $5 or $7 bucks.

Is there is any rubbing with the 285/50/20's?

I have just a quick question since I've never shopped for aftermarket wheels... This might sound dumb, but what is the offset everyone talks about. What does it do for you? Thanks...

Re: Aftermarket wheels

Offset is how far the wheel center (bolted to hub) is from the center of the rim. Can be positive or negative. I hear the WK2s OEM 56mm offset is on the larger size. Less offset than 56 will make the wheels stick out further on a WK2.

Thanks for the explanation...
