Recommendation on how to fix a paint chip? already :(

It's quite unfortunate as it could have been prevented. It wasn't from another random car nor a hard surface. A gust of wind took the door and it just barely hit the wheel barrel. It was far enough away where had the door been fully open it wouldn't hit but that gust of wind was enough to make it hit. It crushed the paint as it nicked the side door edge and off popped a small half the size of a dime, piece :(

Is there anyway to fix it without having the door repainted? I assume a auto-body is going to say it has to be repainted even though it is right on the edge of the door else that is easily fixed at an autobody because its not in the middle of the door.

Has anyone previously fixed chips DIY and has it come out looking good? Its far enough down the door that its not eye level but now that its exposed its silver on a black jeep.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Any pics? If you see silver on a black car, you've gone down to the sheet metal. It will rust if not properly taken care of.

Yep it's down to bare metal and do realize I have to get touch up or see what a body shop can do. Will attempt to get a picture when possible it's raining pretty hard at the moment.

if it is a bare metal and rains hard, at least as a bandaid i would borrow one's clear nail polisher and apply to the chiped area to prevent any moisture making its way....

J, you can always go touch up DIY first or get a pro touch up only to see how it looks before a full Monty. Even though it's dime sized, sounds like it's on the door edge so may not show much. You can also lay a clear bra film on the edge after touch up as well. How about a photo

I attempted a few photos in the rain from the garage with the DSLR.. Not so good but gives everyone an idea. It isn't an OMG in the middle of the door chip, but its a 7 month old Jeep that got a chip that I KNOW ABOUT NOW!

Yesterday I got my clear bra done and was going to ask about getting door edges done, but honestly forgot. I do not know if it would have saved it today though, but the film might have been enough to keep the impact to only messing up the film and/or a scratch and not leaving a full blown chip! Will never know. It is the edge but also wraps around to the front (which is where the actual chip is) of the door as you'll see from the pictures. The edge is just rough/messed up.

I would just touch it up yourself and then put plastic edge guard over it. I have a 6 inch clear piece on each door. For the front doors they are right where you chipped. From my old standby, Pep Boys.

that looks like its just down to the primer, you could get away with using a touch up pen buff it down reapply and then a clear coat

Bummer! That really was a helluva storm last night! Was out driving the new Summit in the mess, and never felt safer in crappy weather. Had to clean it again today: it is only three days mine! :D When you get that chip fixed, no one else in the world (save for this forum) will know it ever happened!
