I thought the 730N RHR has a 30GB Hard Drive???

Was messing around with the HDD menu and found this. Am I reading it right? Is there only an 11GB HD installed?? Did I miss something??

Maybe it is partitioned and shared with the NAV? I will have to check mine...

Yep,
A system partition and a user partition. The RER in my overland brags 30gb total, 17gb user space. I encountered a system corrupted problem while back (my fault) and the system had to be purged. Only the 17gb partition was affected and was cleared. Apparently the system area is protected.

I'm currently driving a loaner wk2 with a 430n RHB and it has 28gb available. Just FYI for comparison.

Thanks for all of the replies. It looks like the 430 RHB uses less space to operate. I'm wondering if It has to do with fact that the 430 uses Garmin and the RER/RHR use Navteq. Could be the size of the database.

Yep...mine is the same??? Seems a bit odd unless there is allocations for other stuff...no way system takes up 18GB.

Au contraire I think.... The system partition (which must contain the OS, NAV, and POI databases) can easily take up 18GB.

Even the old REC NAV system that we had in the WK's required dual layer (7GB) DVD's for their Navtech databases. Those systems are far less sophisticated (both graphically and content wise) than what we now have with the RHR's.....

Re: I thought the 730N RHR has a 30GB Hard Drive???

Both Garmin and Harman license their maps from Navteq. Each OEM then develops their own software producing unique UI's. I don't have my Overland yet, but it's disappointing to here about the limited user drive space. Chrysler advertises the 730n as having a 30gb drive capable of storing 4250 songs. That's marketing math if they are fitting 4250 songs of decent quality in 17GB. I just downloaded the gracenote database for a Honda and the uncompressed size is 499MB. This database stores the song information plus cover art. The navteq installations I've seen have always been under 4GB for all of North America including poi's. I just don't see the navteq at 8gb. The map quality on these oem units is generally inferior to handheld units with out of date maps. There are already posts from owners reporting missing addresses in Queens, NY.
