Push Buttom Start
Hey all!

Has any tried or know if it even is a possibility to get a push button start from the new WK2 to work in a 08' WK?

I know that the button is actually removable in the new Jeeps, so that is what got me wondering if it was just some simple reprogramming or something.

Thanks in advance!

Seems easy I agree. But I'm affraid it's a lot more complicated than that.
I might be wrong here. But I think you would need keyless sensors and an entirely new fob/start button module.

Not from a WK2, but they do make stuff like this:

Bummer, I guess it was a good idea... in theory. Haha.

Re: Push Buttom Start
furthermore you need your key close to the wcm or no start... GIVEN, I dont typically use a non skim key with a key in the center console so I dont know how close it must be (if it would actually see it in your pocket like a newer righ (unlikely)).

As with everything if you spent enough time and money you could probably make something happen (likely not the wk2 push button), but its a matter of how much money is a button to start your car worth?

Your best bet is the ST800 system

It's a horrible idea. Push button starts are a pain in the ass. I'm not sure how Jeep does it, but the low end BMW push starts require you to insert the key into a slot and then step on the brake pedal and then push the start button. And to turn the vehicle off, you have to press that button before you can remove the key. It's a nightmare. The more advanced BMW's allow you to leave the key in your pocket, but you still have to step on the brake pedal. This is super annoying because you can't start the vehicle unless you're sitting in the driver seat. IE: the passenger can't start the vehicle; you can't start the vehicle by leaning into the driver side and turning the key, etc...

If you want a push button start, spend your money on installing a remote starter instead. Then you can remotely start the vehicle AND have a push button start. Two birds with one stone and without the fuss of having to depress the brake pedal.

I could've sworn someone did this already, like a year or so ago. It may have been on a Chrysler/Dodge but I do remember it was expensive and a good bit of work.
