Major smoke out of exhaust
Got home today, left Jeep in driveway. Driveway is at an angle, maybe 15%, not sure exactly. Left jeep running as wife had to go to the store and she was gonna drive jeep (i need to re-think that scenerio).

she backs out of driveway, puts in drive, hits gas, major plume of blue smoke out of both of exhaust pipes. i run outside, get her stopped, get in jeep, hit gas a few more times and it stops.

does anyone know what might have caused this? i have about 600 miles on her.

Re: Major smoke out of exhaust
The way I've always understood it...

white smoke = water vapor

black smoke = too much fuel being burned

blue smoke = engine oil in the fuel mixture.

blue is the worst.

Double check that your oil level is correct.

Re: Major smoke out of exhaust
dealer will likely say its normal part of break-in.

Re: Major smoke out of exhaust
Adfvise your dealer, as said, they'll tell you its normal, which could be, dependant on the first-fill oil the factory is using.

Yours isn't the first, but I still find it inexcusable that they can do it.

Took it strait to dealer. They looked around, asked if i could reproduce it, i said no, one looked at the other, the other looked at the one, shrugged shoulders, smiled, ummmm, "sir, ummmm, we're not sure, ummmm"...

Guess i will try to make it happen again then take it back.

I just checked oil level, it's fine...

Re: Major smoke out of exhaust
I got blue smoke out the exhaust (V6 single exhaust) upon start up a few times since six months of owning the Jeep. I currently have 4,800 miles. It's always just the initial second the Jeep starts then it's fine. I would say it happened 3 or 4 times in 6 months. The last time it happened was a couple of weeks ago and then I had 4,500 miles. Is 4,500 miles still considered breaking in? Just had the oil changed last Saturday and it hasn't it will LOL

Re: Major smoke out of exhaust
you may want to invest in a "catch can", keep any blow by out of the intake manifold.

Re: Major smoke out of exhaust
Funny thing is mine had been running for 5 minutes in the driveway sitting at an angle. that is what has me stumped... i drove it about 100 miles before this happened. i'm chaulking it up to it being on the incline in idol for 5 minutes...
