Question - Can someone review Overland Bluetooth

Hello all...

I am very seriously considering a 2011 Overland (trading in my BMW 550) and I'm curious to hear your thoughts on the quality of the Bluetooth system in the Overland. Specifically:

-Microphone quality and location (does the person your talking to hear a bunch of road noise?)
-Speaker and sound quality (can you hear the person clearly and is it easy to carry on conversation)
-Does it connect quickly once entering the vehicle?
-Is the system easy to use?

Thanks in advance!

Jason.

Re: Question - Can someone review Overland Bluetooth

It sounds like your questions are all around using bluetooth as a phone connection and not attempting streaming audio. In that case I can offer these observations

Microphone quality is excellent, easily as good or better than most systems I've used.
Sound quality is equally as good, have been able to clearly understand people on conference calls and people in Europe and Asia as long as the cellular signal is clean.
By the time I'm done backing out and even look at the screen the phone has connected so that works perfectly.
Once it's paired it works as advertised and I have not had any "ease of use" issues, it just works.

Note: this is with the 430N radio

Re: Question - Can someone review Overland Bluetooth

I have an Overland with the 730N RHR. This is probably my fourth vehicle with Bluetooth for a phone connection and it is easily the best quality sound.

Since the Overland is so quiet, both incoming and outgoing sound quality is excellent. FWIW, I have a friend with a relatively new BMW 330 and his microphone sound quality is horrible compared to the Overland. This is his wife's opinion, not mine.

Re: Question - Can someone review Overland Bluetooth

I came from a 2009 BMW X5 and I can honestly say that the bluetooth is fantastic in this car. I connects within the first 15 seconds, is ready to go, and is extremely easy to use (unlike the 2 minute connection time the BMW takes). I will also add that after learning the voice commands, I have not taken my mobile out of my pocket to make a call. Everything is controlled via voice command. It just works!!!

I just have the Laredo, but I think everything is the same other than the visual portion and I would agree with this. My phone never leaves my pocket in the car anymore.

I have a DroidX and it connects well (within a minute of starting the car), however it may take another minute or two to sync up the phone book. Audio quality is great. On a side note the phone stays connected to the bluetooth when you exit the vehicle while it is running. Got about 30+ feet away from the vehicle and got a call and it stayed connected to the vehicle system.

I have an Overland with the 730 RHR using a Blackberry and its seamless. It connects fast, quality is superb and I can even stream music without any issues. As one member has already stated, the WK2 is so quiet in the cabin, most people dont even know I am driving. Also, it was simple to sync my address book too! All in all, it really works well.

Re: Question - Can someone review Overland Bluetooth

I second Talderma: I have used both RHR and the after 2009 CIC iDrive. RHR is fast and clear. I still prefer the interface on the iDrive (more intuitive, and simple to use with the rotary button), but the sound quality is better in the RHR.
On the other hand, in (only) 10 minutes of using the RHR, I was not able to get the phone book listed, so you can select a name and call it ....

With my RER unit, it's great. It takes about 30 seconds to one minute to be able to make calls using the downloaded phone book, but calls transfer over to the thing within 15 seconds or so. Call quality is great, so is voice quality.

Reliability of the system is even way better than my wife's Acura- that thing will dump calls back to the phone at random (and this is the second HandsFreeLink module it's had); my Jeep has never once dropped the connection with my phone.

Microphone quality and location (does the person your talking to hear a bunch of road noise?) This is the first time callers on the other end didn't know I was on hands free. They claim it is very clear

-Speaker and sound quality (can you hear the person clearly and is it easy to carry on conversation) Good to excellent for both phone calls and streaming music from my iPhone 4

-Does it connect quickly once entering the vehicle? It downloads my contacts within seconds from entering the vehicle. No issues what so ever.

-Is the system easy to use? VERY

Re: Question - Can someone review Overland Bluetooth

Wow, I greatly appreciate the stellar feedback. All my questions have been thoroughly answered and even better, verified by several of you. I must admit, I have been through 2 5-series BMW's and a Lexus GS in the past 2 years and the Bluetooth is miserable. I constantly get the "are you in a tunnel?" question. Very frustrating.

Thanks again. Now I just have to choose color Blackberry/frost or Dark Charcoal/frost.

Jason.

Re: Question - Can someone review Overland Bluetooth

I'll chime in and say the BT in my new Summit is much batter than the wife's two-year old BMW 128i convertible - but it's not really a fair comparison as she has a lot more cabin noise even when the top is up.

Oh .. and if you are going with the frost interior ... Blackberry rocks IMO.
Can you still order that color?
