jeff05wk's Build Thread
I have always wanted a Jeep Grand Cherokee that had a V8, and was a 4x4. I always wanted it to be lifted, and have big tires on it, and lights and yada yada yada...

So in September 2010 I purchased a 2005 Limited 4.7L 4x4.

My financial situation is not a struggle, but I do not have unlimited funds to just spend huge amounts of money at one time. So I decided to make small purchases over a period of time, and then put everything together all at once.

In November I purchased 4 AEV Pintlers - Argent

In January I made my next purchase - 4 Goodyear Duratrac 245/70/17's. Unfortunately, It wasn't until 3 weeks later that I found out the Duratracs were not wide enough to fit the Pintlers. So I sold the Duratracs, and purchased 4 Kelly Safari TSR 265/70/17's

In March I purchased 4 Dorman TPMS Sensors, a Rough Country 2" lift, 2 Front Billstein Shocks, 2 Rear Billstein Shocks, and a Flowmaster SUV 50 Series.

So, about 7 months and about $2500 later, I THINK I am finally ready to put it in the shop. As soon as I can schedule a couple days off for myself (within the next week or two) I am going to do it.

I'm very excited to see the outcome.

Anyone care to guess what the bill will be to have all of the above installed, along with a fresh oil change (partial synthetic), and an alignment... because I have no idea how much it is going to cost.

I will post updated pics as soon as it's all installed.

Re: jeff05wk's Build Thread
Nice! Sounds like a sweet start! Only thing i had done at the shop was the tires mounted and balanced and the alignment. Check with the place you got your Jeeps shoes at. They might know of another shop that'll do your alignment for a discount becuz of the referal. The shop that did mine took $10 off the listed price because of business i had done with the tire company. Wasn't a bad deal. Just a thought....

Re: jeff05wk's Build Thread
Well. The lift may have to wait even longer to be put on.

I just had an unexpected travel expense. My brother was helping my step father cut limbs off a huge tree, and one of the limbs fell on my brother's head.

Severe whiplash, fractured skull, multiple vertebrae fractures in neck, broken collar bone, etc., etc.. It was a huge branch, literally 10 inches in diameter, and 25ft. long. He was struck around 2-3ft away from the largest end. This limb was about 15ft up.

He's doing better. He got released from ICU, and the hospital yesterday morning. He's pretty banged up.

Almost forgot.. on a side note.

Driving through Atlanta around 11pm the other night, I ran over a large deer in the middle of the interstate doing 75mph. Destroyed my passenger side rocker panel.

Guess It's a good time to upgrade to the 4xGuard rails.

Re: jeff05wk's Build Thread
Well... I got the wheels and tires mounted and balanced with the new TPMS Sensors.

So I had to throw one on the Jeep to see how it looks.

Surprisingly, I could run these 265/70/17 on Pintlers WITHOUT a lift if I wanted to. just have to do pinch weld mod. I would probably have issues bottoming out though.

Hopefully i'll get the lift on by mid-May. I'm loving the look of these tires on the Pintlers. I can't wait to have it all done!

Re: jeff05wk's Build Thread
Did the pinch weld mod today. Having the right tools makes this so easy. I did the majority of the driver's side with a hax saw and a house hammer. That wore me out 2/3 of the way through, so I ran to Lowes and purchased some metal blades for my sawzall, and a 3lb. drilling hammer. I literally did the passenger's side in 5 minutes, where the driver's side took 30mins and I didn't even finish.

This is 265/70/17 Kelly Safari TSR's on AEV Pintlers with NO life, and I have NO rubbing issues, even at full lock.

Re: jeff05wk's Build Thread
Looks great. The 245/70s should have fit fine, the Pintler is only an 8" wide wheel and the duratrac in the size is rated for 6.5 to 8.They should fit fine.

I work at a tire shop and mount all kinds of stuff, in my opinion who ever told you they were too narrow is full of shit.

Ive got pics of a WK with Pintler wheels and stock 245/65/17s.

Re: jeff05wk's Build Thread
Nobody told me that, I just wanted to avoid any possible issues that may arise. The site I read said the wheel range for the Duratracs I had was max 7.5".

No matter now, I am VERY happy with what I ended up with.

Re: jeff05wk's Build Thread
Don't you just love being happy with what you decided??? I sure was.

But now I think I want to add 1" spacers to the rear of my OME lift to bring back some of the factory rake.

Re: jeff05wk's Build Thread
I was not trying to say you made a bad decision, I was under the impression that you went to a shop and they told you they would not fit. If your happy with it then thats all thats important.

Not criticism was intended. Enjoy your WK, Its Beautiful.
