Can I ask a stupid Question.....Newbie!

Hey all. BTW the forum and site are awesome. I have a question about the the new jeeps. I've been lurking for while but need the advice of the group....who is sooooo well versed on the new WK2! So I have found the exact new Wk2 that I want......with the exception of the OFFROAD II package which I dont want. Its a full load overland and sweet I might add. Could I have the dealer swap for the 20" rims and tires without any issues???? The offroad II package seems just like tires and skid plates. Is there anything else I should know about??

Thanks alot guys,

Joel

It has the skid plates, tow hooks (which won't hurt you), and the 18" wheels. If you truly never intend to take the Jeep off-road, you might have the dealer take the skid plates off since they add extra weight. Then again ... I had a stone go through the oil pan of my sedan years ago and I was not off-road when it happened. Extra protection doesn't hurt :)

You might consider keeping the 18" wheels with the Latitude tires that come with them - they are fine for the street and are actually a more comfortable ride. But if you really want the 20" wheels and you can come to an agreement with the dealer, so much the better.

You didn't mention the color, but if it's one of the restricted colors (like Brilliant Black, Blackberry, and so forth) you should count yourself lucky to find what you want. All in all, I'd say "go for it!"

The profile of the 18" tires are taller, so the actual overall diameter of the tire/wheel assembly is nearly the same as the 20" tire/wheel. The swap would not affect the height or overall drive ratio of the vehicle. The Overlands with 20" wheels actually come with 18" spares.

It is my understanding that the off road package also has upgraded door gasketting and wire waterproofing (whatever that means) under the hood.

PILSNER14,
If you found an Overland in that color combo with the items you want grab it. Especially if the rims are the only piece missing. With restrictions you may have a hard time finding another Brilliant Black w/ Saddle Overland w/ 20's.

If the dealer won't switch rims you can always 1) buy the 20's at an additional cost at the time of purchase if cost is a factor (you can roll it in to financing this way), 2) at a later date or 3) try to swap on the forum. If you do buy you can do better than the $424/ea price the dealership will give you, they are available for $292 at online locations so haggle or get on your own.

AAAA, there was thread which discusses whether the Grand had the extra gaskets and such when Trail Rated (perform a forum search). If I remember correctly, even though Jeep's website indicates this as a Trail Rated ammenity it doesn't apply to the Grand Cherokee.

Correct - the aspect ratio of the 18" tires is higher, hence my comment about a more comfortable ride. In older times, it really made a difference in ride comfort (the extra flex in the sidewall absorbed bumps). Today's tires and suspensions have made that less important - which is why the 20" wheels don't bring a teeth rattling ride. There is still a difference though.
