"trail rated" tested

I had a need to go out to the fields, go through a ravine, do a river crossing, creek tree line and to get back to the road (scoping some land)...
I’m happy to report I DIDN'T get stuck..but i do have some comments.... new truck... I am sure i added a few pin stripping ( oh well i tried really hard, even made my passenger to get out and hold brush/branches while I sneaked by.
Tires, well we all know is ok highway, but on a off road/sand creek/mud are absolute useless SHIT.
suspension... off road 2 setting got me through the most of the ruts, but skid plates were tested. Sudden drops made the suspension sound "funny", but i guess that's how i knew i reach the travel limit.
hill descend would work good, but again on a steep descend tires showed how crappy are they. departure angle is ok, but i had "multi hitch" high adjusting one and i bottom on it more than a few times...
engine- terrific plenty of TQ in 4lo to crawl up out of ravine ( shitty tires made it more difficult than it really is). water crossing: sandy bottom about 3 feet deep about 6 feet wide with mud/clay... had to take it at speed since with loss of momentum tires were a big let down.
all in all I was impressed, i had my YJ on stand by to bail the "pimp mobile" but i am happy to report jeep truly performed marvelously, especially for stock vehicle....
under the flipper glass, surrounding metal got all dusty, one would expect to have a better seal... oh well, i will clean it
now I need to clean the jeep and buff the custom forest striping. no pictures, since i was just enjoying, and didn't want to jinx myself...

:D

good to hear...

sounds like I need to order a set of skid plates :)

and you are right the stock Michelin's are sh*t. Mine were spining wicked crazy in my parents field when I was messing around one rainy afternoon.

Good job! No pics?!

I've taken mine through about 2 feet of water. 3 feet? You're a brave man.

Re: "trail rated" tested

ok the water line on the jeep was above, but before crossing me poking with the stick the water level was just about ~3/4 of the tire height, defiantly above door sill level. when i had to charge with some speed, since tires were getting bogged on the mud/clay banks.
as I said i had my YJ less than 5 miles away ( that I actually got stuck in that creek, different crossing through before). the land owner was aware of my screwing around, and anything from cranes to earth mover would be available to my rescue.... I would look like a complete tool, if I would have to ask for help, but i don't think "brave" got anything to do...I could have hiked home if i would get it really badly stuck and would deal with it another day ( jeep for right now is a garage queen anyways)...

Re: "trail rated" tested

thanks, i wil go cut some firewood.
i will take a trail, I know there is a nice drop, but coming back i would need to power out of the hole and i will have a trailer of with firewood... I think I might just tape the "power out"....YJ if you jerk the throttle unloads the front end BIG TIME... will have my dad video that up and put it on you tube... I am going on Friday... there is another stream , but it is only a foot or so deep, nothing exciting
I will get something up....
BTW what is "rep" what is the benefit of it? I hang on the boards, but never really cared for that...but thanks anyways...
Mooshead, do you go on trails around denver? ( since you have a shiny new jeep, i would think you would not go places that would trash the truck? i know none of those trails :(... I might go with FJ/Ih8MUD club, but will see), what are you doing as far as trail testing?

sorry guys, had an insane weekend ( started with me playing a lumberjack), 4 tones ( on call volunteer FF) ( one of them is a big wild land fire, a medical in the middle of the night), to tap off my intercome/gate access decided to short circuit in the middle of the other night...
but here are some pics/videos, hopefully I will get them attached. No really special, just using jeep, for what i bought it. Looking at the videos- camera does not do justice IT IS STEEP drop!
but in any case, enjoy... I defiantly DID :)
