Kicker tweeter questions

My 2008 Overland has the Boston Acoustics system. Pretty poor IMO other than it's a weighty sound

I've read various posts on the Kicker upgrade, and managed to get just the kicker dash tweeters, so I thought I'd give them a try before spending big bucks

Fitted in 10 minutes, switched on the stereo.........mmmmmm........sound mediocre, but I thought I'd give them some hours to settle in

They do sound different now...extremely bright and painful to listen to

- was fitting just the tweeters a bad idea with the rest stock?
- could fitting just tweeters damage the system?
- would fitting the rest of the kicker upgrade improve things enough?

TIA

I don't know the specifics of the BA system nor the Kicker (you can look this up).. BUT if the input impedances of the amp and speaker are not correct (since you have the BA amp and the kicker tweeters) you can have some signal problems (standing waves) and poor preformance.

I doubt you did any dammage but if they are not correct its always best to make sure the impedances are the same. In my oppinion if your going to change the speakers, do them all.

I think the BA system has a non-standard impedance like 3.2 ohms or something. I could be wrong, just going off memory here.

are the kickers you bought THE KICKERS MADE FOR THE JEEP? or just 'some kickers'.

like ekaz says Jeepo factory has lots of weird shit.

my 2 : i did the kicker amp first. that was a good improvement. then i did all the speakers and I am very satisfied/

Have you adjusted the treble to see if that helps? Without the Kicker amp you won't have the correct EQ.

Speakers are same impedance, no harm can be done installing them as you did.

Better to replace all of the speakers AND the amplifier.

I feel like I wasted my money on the Kicker upgrade.

Apparently they only sound good if you have the amp'd upgraded audio.

You didn't waste your money (yet), you just didn't spend enough :). The amp is not all that expensive, especially if you find a used one.

I have amps ans subs laying around. I just don't feel like tampering with the system.

I am saving my money for gas.

Re: Kicker tweeter questions

you need to make sure your using 2ohm speakers, like Infinity Reference (2.6ohms) for example. I installed just the 3.5" Inifinity Reference and man they made a huge difference over stock. I think i am still going to upgrade and get the Kicker amp when i have the extra cash laying around. Just to spruce up the over sound quality at higher volumes.

The stock BA system runs the dash speakers at 2ohms. Got this info from the "red" site.
