shift bezel tape

Just got the Jeep back from detailing only to find that they fubard the plastic strip that moves back and forth with the shift lever. Has anyone ever delt with this? I checked wkjeeps to see how to remove and access console, I'd rather not if I don't have to. Thanks for any tips.

I did a write up on this on JF before I was banned. You don't have to replace the whole thing. You have to get lucky like I did or find one at a junkyard. Ask member GoJeep. He has stripped a WK down completely.

Here you go: http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f67/p...-part-1150882/

if you can find one at a junkyard you can replace just that part. i replaced the top cover on mine and i got the whole shifter assembly for dirt cheap from a yard. shouldnt cost you more than $50. keep the exta parts because these assemblies are known to fail.

That's a real nice write up 2for3. Thanks for responding scottina and svenska. Well I guess my panel removal kit will come in handy, I purchased it when I installed the Kicker dual 10's sub box and pulled the side panels on the driver's side to run the wiring. Thanks again everybody.

Speaking of other forums,it was stated on one that you can now buy the part you need separate from the whole shifter from a Jeep dealer.I can't remember the price but it was fairly cheap.

Re: shift bezel tape

So I was able to fix what I needed to but I never could lift my shifter all of the way out. After looking at your pictures I noticed that yours didn't have the 4x4 T-handle set up. My tape didn't tear, I was able to get it back into its correct track but if it did tear how would you pull the shifter out that has 4x4? I disconnected the wiring harness to the T-handle but I still couldn't get it out, I didn't want to pry on it harder. Also I only had 3 screws to take out, the fourth hole (next to T-handle) doesn't even look like it ever had a screw threaded into it. Something was holding it down in this one corner though.

You must have had another screw somewhere.
