5150 Curb Weight....Ugh!!!

So with all of the specs now published - (the frontal area, drag coefficient data, all of the gear ratios, tire sizes, curb weight etc) you can do some bench racing and see where we are with this new beast...after all it's all math - unless some of the inputs are incorrect so....

Unless this new HEMI is waaaaaaaay underated...by like 30hp. I don't see how you can get into even the high 4 second range 0-60, seems more like 5.2 with a quarter of 13.2 at around 102mph. That is very plain Jane to me.

They keep saying it is more powerful, more technologically advanced, quieter, more refined and safer (all coming at a cost apparently - they never said it was faster...than the old one:confused:

Who is up for a 6.4 swap into a First Gen SRT8...same tranny...should be cake...run those numbers (curb weight of 4850) - now we are talking.... :)

I'm just sayin........

There's more to the new one than just 0-60 speed. I sure wouldn't want the old style if I was buying a new one.

Understand - 0-60 is not the end all be all. I had the 06 SRT and it was lacking in a few areas, I think this one makes up for it. I was just hoping that the new HEMI was 525hp and tq. Would have been a good bump.

Completely agree.

On the red site, some of the guys went to a meet where they had a dyno day and they had a 6.1 Chally stock and a 6.4 Chally stock on the dyno's. The difference was exatcly what Chrysler is advertising. There was only a 40hp difference, so all who thought it was going to have this super underated HP rating will be dissapointed. It's gonna be near the same or maybe slower considering that it gained weight and the 40hp increase barely makes up for that.

And that is the part I don't get about the SRT group - which is all about performance. If this thing is slower I will be looking at other other options, if it is equal it will be a touch choice.

So if this one is equal in speed to the first, that's a tough choice? This SRT WK2 is a luxury vehicle that is now more comfortable, refined, and technologically capable than before. I don't see the choice.

It's an SUV.... Anywhere in the 13s is plenty of go fast for that kind of weight.

If you are out stop light racing in this you picked the wrong platform.

You're not going to beat a corvette z06 if the driver knows how to drive, and you could roll the Jeep trying.

It is completely the right platform - for AWD straightline performance...it is just sounding like it needs more power when you run the numbers. At 12 miles to the gallon it should be the fastest SUV on the planet, otherwise what is the point? To be kinda fast? Plenty fast? Why are we buying this again?

It does not go offroad - it needs to have at least one stellar, redeeming qaulity for $50k and 12 miles to the gallon. Otherwise it is an above average SUV with horrible gas mileage, with no offroad capabilities.

It has to do something the best...

I dont know about all you guys put power numbers and all the good stuff is measured usually around peak rpm! This new motor has an increase in torque and horsepower NOT ONLY AT PEAK, but from 2800 rpms or so and up! The power curve is less of a curve and more of a flat line from the big power to even bigger power! Doesnt anyone understand what that means and how much of an improvement in design that required!

Like 450ft lbs of torque at low rpm is going to feel like a kick in the ass from god himself compared to the WK SRT8s numbers at that rpm, its probably like a 30-40% increase which is gonna = FUN TO DRIVE! Maybe it will trap the same in the 1/4 and it might run the same time or slightly slower BUT thats track stuff and not daily driving. Just imagine, brake-launching this thing, if the big brembos can hold it at maybe 2k or so and then letting off, whewww this thing will throw you back like nothing else! Im sure a higher stall converter will do the trick :)

Around town this thing will be an animal, way more so than the stock SRT8, especially off the line. Anything beyond that is for serious racing and not the street. So if you're that serious about racing, you have the choice to 1. mod it or 2. get something faster. :)
