Oil analyzing device

Anyone heard of this? It's still in development but looks promising from what I read here:

http://tinyurl.com/686ec84

In short it allows car owners to do away with often arbitrary mileage-based oil change schedules. Instead, it quickly analyzes a sample of your oil to see if you're ready for a change.

Not sure how this compares to the onboard oil sensor in the WK2. It's probably redundant but might be nice for vehicles w/o this technology. At an estimated price of $30, not a bad gadget for the DIY'er's garage.

Cool video on the product, you can pre-order.. They need $19,500 by June 7th in order for the product to be put into production. When people back the product with a 30 pledge you are helping put forth the product as well as reserving a unit for yourself!

Here a direct link to their kickstarter page. The past few days have seen large growth.

To add: Anyone who pledges, if it doesn't meet the funding goals, your not charged anything..

From the website:

When is my credit card charged?
If this project is fully funded on Tuesday Jun 7, 11:26am EDT your credit card will be charged along with all the other backers of this project.

So my card is only charged if funding succeeds?
Yes! That's part of what makes Kickstarter special. If a project isn't fully funded, no one pays anything.

That's interesting, Jorde. I hadn't dived into the FAQ at the site yet; thanks for posting that.

Re: Oil analyzing device

This looks pretty sweet.

We have been using oil analysis based on spectroscopy (not what this product is) for quite a while for large tonnage water chillers. The oil analysis can help us see wear on bearings (metal particles found in oil) as well as oil acid and moisture (may indicate a leak).

It is always nice to have a tool which can provide a "view" inside your system.

I would be interested to know if this is the same type of system in the JGC.

Re: Oil analyzing device

It jumped 72 backers since this morning and gained another 3,000+ I think it will definitely make the goal in 26 days remaining, they must have done some advertising or people are getting the link around...

Re: Oil analyzing device

I read about it in my daily gizmag.com news digest this morning, so I'm sure that coverage generated a lot of exposure for them. Not to mention all the fresh JG traffic that has now been driven their way!

Re: Oil analyzing device

if that really works, then Jeep should include that sensor in every engine.

I would not give anyone my credit car number who promises not to use it.
