Dead Bug in WK2 Headlight
Hey everyone. I have a WK2 Laredo-X with 3000 miles. I happened upon a very odd discovery today, there is a large dead spider INSIDE my passenger side front headlight!! I have owned several Jeeps, and have NEVER seen anything like this. I know very little about cars and headlights, but I can't help but wonder, have any of you guys had this problem? Do you have any suggestions and do you think this should be covered under warranty as this Jeep is brand new and has only about 3000 miles? I think this is rather unnacceptable (although slightly humorous) due to the vehicle being brand new.

I am taking her in to the dealer tomorrow for the first oil change and am definitly going to bring this to their attention. Im not sure if the headlight is perfectly sealed and wonder if this could have happened at the factory. Since I have owned the vehicle for only a couple months I am slightly concerned if there is a hole or leak in the light that more bugs can find their way in there. Any light you guys can shed on this odd situation is very appreciated, thanks!

Re: Dead Bug in WK2 Headlight
you MIGHT use a vacuum where the bulb goes in the high beam.......

there are vents but they shouldnt be that big...

the lamps are made somewhere and there is a period they dont have bulbs.....and it crawled in!

Re: Dead Bug in WK2 Headlight
they also have tiny opennings in them for moisture to drain out. seeking a warranty claim on it would make you look a little strange. use robs suggestion and you will get it out quickly

Personally, I'd bring it up with the dealer and let them worry about it. They'll sort it at no cost I'm sure.....

Re: Dead Bug in WK2 Headlight
your head light housings including fog lights have openings molded in them for air pressure changes, and for things like moisture and such. The spider probably got in that way. If the housing were completely sealed, heat would build up inside them from the bulbs and crack them and it would be hotter in side the housing than out side causing them to fog up in the winter time, etc. The dealership should get rid of it, but it may happen again, you never know.

Just kidding as the previous suggestions are plausible.

Re: Dead Bug in WK2 Headlight
My wifes lexus had one warranty claim and it was for a bug in the headlight. Lexus replaced a $1100 headlamp for a bug.

Re: Dead Bug in WK2 Headlight
I drilled holes in one of my WKs headlights a while back because it was holding a lot of moisture. Never had any problems to this day.

Re: Dead Bug in WK2 Headlight
I found a spider on the inside of my Jeep while I was camping. I am pissed, I am taking my Jeep back to the dealer and immediately demanding a new vehicle, this is unacceptable!!!
