Catch can

I have a BT catch can sitting around from my 2010 SRT8. I called the manufacturer and they cannot confirm that it will work on the 5.7 Anyone using one of these and where did you mount? TIA, Steve

Steveo, yes, the BT catch can will fit your WK2 Hemi. Traditional mount threads onto the bolt to the lower left of your throttle body.

Install thread here: http://www.jeepgarage.org/f156/bt-catch-can-for-wk2-21051.html

Above is what the CC collected after a mere 829 miles. Get one.

Yes, either direct from BT, or The Hemi Shop has 'em too.

I recommend paying a few extra bucks for the braided hoses, but you do not need the Z-bracket is described in my install thread link above.

Our engines have a positive crankcase ventilation system which recirculates combustion gases back through the intake manifold to be reburned rather than released into the environment. It is a federal mandated emission feature around since the late 60's (on all US market cars). In our engine for some reason (likely strong vacuum) it also occasionally recirculates oil through the system with the result being that the oil cakes the inside of your throttle body, manifold, the tops of your valves, and pistons. Over time, usually outside of warranty, s^(t won't work properly and driveability/performance/economy will suffer. I have heard of other hemi engines that have actually pulled timing (decreasing performance through the computer by retarding when your engine sparks) because of the oil mist. Probably extreme but it could happen. Anyway, this catch can sits inline between the PCV hose and the throttle body inlet and condenses the suspended oil mist and allows it to drop into the can for collection/disposal. I don't get that much oil in my Challenger, usually it is a quarter of the reservoir every 5K miles or so. Some are worse than others...

The problem should be less with time as rings wear and the engine is broken in - just my theory.

I'm sure this is a finely crafted part made by BT. But does anyone know if there are any other more economical choices? Thanks

As far as I am aware, there aren't many choices, they are the original design of the catch can and provide all that is necessary to get it set up and going. They are a forum sponsor too now as of yesterday, check out there sub-forum.... maybe if enough people are interested in purchasing a catch can maybe they can put together some type of group buy effort with discounted pricing.. Click to link below for their vendor forum, Go ask, worth the shot!

The Z bracket designed for the 6.1 will mount on the 5.7 under two conditions: you take the plastic engine cover off; you might have to grind down the bracket to clear the EGR tube. OTher than that, it'll fit! There are other ways to mount it, search threads to see examples of the can mounted by the PCM in the back left corner of the engine bay.
