Help with Towing

Hello folks,

I apologize for starting a thread for Tow capacities but I am thoroughly confused and have a decision to make. My family depends on the decision that I make (6 year old girl and 3 year old boy) so I thought that I would ask for help here.

Here is the dilemma:

I have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with the 5.7 Hemi. It's capabilities are here: WK Towing Capacities

I am making a decision on which TT to purchase and I have a choice between two. They are the Forest River Surveyor SP191T and the SP192T. Both of their specs are here: Forest River Trailer Specs

Now according to some of the calculators it seems that the SP191T is well within the capabilities of the Jeep and the Sp192T, if fully loaded is over. The question is how likely are you to load 3000 lbs of gear into your trailer when going camping. The load capacity of the SP191T is only 808 pounds and then you have to take off 400 pounds for the accessories that come with the trailer.

Big question is can I tow the larger trailer safely? What is your real world experience?

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance,

Mike

Re: Help with Towing

Mike, WK's are used by the "Grey Nomad" folks here in Australia for towing rigs like that all over Australia.

They do it with ease. A load distrubuting hitch and stabilizers are worthwhile to minimise sway in cross winds. I would suggest that for any tow vehicle though.

The Hemi WK will handle the load with ease and is one of the best tow vehicle I've driven (rather extensively).... but for londer trips you may want to consider also towing a fuel bowser :p

Re: Help with Towing

Thank you everyone for your replies. I think that I am going to go for the SP-192T. I will not be loading it to capacity but it sure has a lot of options for storage. The SP-191T has a limit of 440 pounds after you add on the extras that you order. Gotta love that double axle!
