Tinted Tail Lights Completed... almost.

So I decided to tint my tails using VHT Niteshades and the tutorial videos most of you have already seen floating around the site.

Removal and sanding of the lenses went perfectly,
All pieces painted up with no issues at all,
Clearcoat went on nice and smooth,
Then I get to the final step and am oh so close to re-installing and...

Somehow I must have put too much pressure on the corner of the outer driverside lense when sanding and managed to put a damn spider crack in the lense.

Nothing like a $200 screw up to make your day

The other pieces look amazing and I am very happy with the results. I'll post pics tommorow once I have the replacment lense tinted installed.

</rant>

Stay tuned...

What are you using to clearcoat. And how did you sand them. Just a fine grit paper?

Hope you can fix it, but you have some balls doing that.

I've yet to see tinted tails on a wk2!

Look forward to pics

IMO tinted tails is the best visual mod for the wk2's.

Agreed 100%, I still love mine just as much as day one. Best mod I've done, takes the red edge off. Second best mod... match the front windows via tint!

604, sorry about the lens. I have a spare set of 4 rear lenses that I picked up as temporaries while waitung for Jon's Tinted Tails to finish mine. You are welcome to them, but unfortunately the driver's side outboard lens has a small interior crack, and the driver's side liftgate lens has a small corner of the lens broken off, otherwise good.

I'll PM you a photo, but if you would rather have new, then I am happy to make these available for shiiping cost only to those who want temps to get the JTT treatment. PM me if interested.

tinted tails along with the painted center rear jeep handle would look clean IMO (esp on a black debadged wk2)

Thanks moose I really appreciate the offer - talk about a stand up member of the Jeep Garage community! Another well deserved +r for you!

The cracks in my housing are actually not that bad at all and didn't even run out to the edge of the lense. It was quite odd really. The unfortunate part is that there was enough of a crack that once I resprayed the Niteshades it would seep into the cracks and make them stand out more because they were darker black then the rest of the lights. Normally I would not care too much but on a brand new vehicle it stood out... at least to me :)

I wanted a single coat so that the lights were only slighly darker than stock and they came out perfect! They look almost identicle to your lights Moose but mine are on a black WK2. On my way to the dealer now to pick up the new lense!

I hope to have some final pics up later today once everythings back together.
