Need some advice here

I just bought my first new truck, it's a 2011 Overland. The truck has less than 700 miles on it and it's already back at the dealership.
On occasion when I put the truck into drive it goes directly into 4th gear. If i do not notice this happen, the car goes nowhere when I apply gas and then performs a sort of neutral drop then goes.
First off I'm wondering if anyone else has encountered this. Next, what would you suggest my actions be with the dealership? they are 5 star rated and I'm hoping I don't get jerked around.

Sounds like the transmission is in limp mode, it sensed a problem and locked itself into one gear in attempt to prevent damage while not stranding you. Could be anything from a simple connector to a new transmission, it should be covered under warranty.

Hi phatal. I can't help with your problem but can offer advice my experiences with Jeep dealerships. I owned a 2011 Overland for six months and during that time, it was at the dealership for about a month and half. I had to take it to a few different dealerships to get the service I needed, as some would not spend the time to investigate, even though it was under warranty. I ended up going to a dealership an hour away because they did everything they could to help out, including giving me a loaner car, which most Jeep dealerships won't do. Unfortunately, each time I picked up my Jeep, I discovered a new problem and had to take it back to the dealership. I also became frustrated because neither the dealership nor Chrysler would do much else about the problems I had. For particular one problem I had, Chrysler admitted a design flaw, but offered no recompense for me or my troubles. I simply received the equivalence of "If we help you, we have to help everyone who purchased a 2011 Grand Cherokee, so live with it." Even though everything was under warranty, it quickly became a headache driving back and forth, so I decided to trade it in at 4600 miles. I got what I owed on it, so it was a wash, and I am very happy to be out of it.

I'm not trying to bash Chrsyler nor Jeep or am advocating you sell your Jeep. It is a beautiful vehicle and drives amazing. However, I lost confidence in Chrysler through my whole experience. I also got nervous after reading the numerous other problems Jeep owners were having on this forum. But hopefully the 2012 SRT will have higher quality. I hope that helps.

It is off topic of this thread but may be for benefits of other users of the forum you can share what is Chrysler admitted design flaw you found. probably in different thread?
thanks

the dealership is saying that they need to do some road tests with it for another night to determine what the problem could be. They are trying to sell me with the re-programmimg the key excuse. what could key programming have to do with gears shifting?

Everything...but not the key, the computer. It controls shift points, idle RPMs, how fast the throttle responds to the pedal, etc. However, the underlying reason why it immediately goes to 4th, needs to be identified and corrected.
