18" vs 20" wheel with off road package

Is there a mechanical reason why you can't get the 20" wheel package with the off road package? I might be ordering an Overland with the off road package but I don't like the 18" rims.

You're better off just getting the 20" wheels and purchasing the skid plates and tow hooks from your dealer and having them put them on before you take delivery. Way cheaper and the 20" wheels look 10000x better.

no mechanical reason.. Though with 20" wheels, your sidewall will be smaller which means they're more likely to get damaged or bent during an offroad excursion.

I also wouldn't say it's cheaper. The Off-road pkg for the Overland is only +$275. Tow hooks + skid plates > $275.

It's cheaper because he wants the 20" wheels and if he gets the off-road package and buys 20" OEM rims and wheels that's going to cost an extra $1800 at least minus what he could sell the 18" wheels for.

True, if you go that route and really want 20s. I'm glad I didn't get 20s, though.. my 18s are already scratched up pretty good. lol

I have the 18"s with the ORA II and I purchased the aftermarket 20X9 SRT Reps with Goodyear Fortera 265 50R 20. The SRT Reps look good and handle well "on road" but don't go anywhere near the off road as there is little to no rubber between the road and rim...you feel everything. The 18"s are soooo much smoother on and off road. I missed them so much I put them back on.

The 265/50x20 tires are the tallest ratio I've had on one of my vehicles in decades. They feel soft, sloppy and generally create a sensation of floating (the Michelins are better than the Goodyears but it's far from a performance package). The Overland I drove with the OR package and 18" wheels was even worse, felt like steering inputs were merely suggestions.

Obviously it's all relative. Especially since I can't recall the last time I went off road (intentionally ;) )

I pulled through Schlotzky's deli for lunch today and I'm glad I have a Grand Cherokee (although it's an '05) it was so rough and bumpy through the drive-thru. Seriously, Lol.

Another thing the very limited choice of on/offroad tires available for 20" tires.

Anyone considering actual offroad use should go with the 18" tires IMHO.
