nice! i can't wait to get my GC on some soft stuff.

Brother, let me tell, this sand is like powder. Not packed at all. Very treacherous today, but the overland had it for lunch.

There are many many, supposedly more capable trucks/suv's stuck out here. Tow truck drivers are getting rich today.

What psi did you drop to?

The sand there is really soft. What tire pressure? Did you use sand mode, 4W high?

dubwarren 05-29-2011 08:23 AM

I went down to about 18 psi and was in sand mode. I tried to stick to the pre cut lanes in the sand but about half the sand driving was done by plowing through fresh, soft, uncut tracks. I also had to hop over lanes a few times to avoid other beach drivers. The jeep went through it effortlessly.

I have the 20" wheels and was a little worried before hand. I wasn't sure this jeep was as capable as the 08 limited I had previously. Afterwards, I was impressed. This new jeep handled it all with ease.

As I parked on the beach a couple in the spot next to us said "I think it's a BMW" I was tempted to say " a BMW would be stuck a quarter mile back" but I didn't want to say the word "stuck" while still on the beach. Just trying to stay humble, but it's hard with this beast jeep cutting through dunes like a hot knife through butter......

Good times, mos def not a mall crawler boys.

When you feel more adventurous, drive on up to Carova!

BTW... any fishing?

I'd bet most of those getting stuck decided *not* to lower their tire pressures before going on the beach. (or gunned their engines when they started to sink a little)

Sweet... I am heading there in 2 weeks. Love driving out to under the bridge at the inlet. Won't be in a jeep tho.. Waiting on a 2012. So hopefully my Tacoma isn't a stuck one... Like the1jake said. Stuck ones probably didn't air down. Tried that once... You don't get too far..

dubwarren 05-30-2011 07:55 AM

Most of the stuck drivers said they aired down moderately, like maybe 25-30. Not enough. I saw a guy in an 11 limited not aired down all the way and he was struggling.

As for the fishing, I'm not into it. I have been doing some boarding though when it hasn't been too choppy. (boogie and long)

Corova is tough. I've been down that way once a few yeas ago. The sand there reminds me of the beach at the end of hatteras. Super soft and seemingly bottomless.

dubwarren 05-30-2011 07:56 AM

As for driving under the bridge Jake, the beach is blocked off so drivers can't get to the point. It sucks!

I need to investigate a beach where one could drive on the sand here in Southern CA....
