Durango and GC

The other day I thought I was following a GC and as I got closer I realized it was a Durango. Not sure if this was discussed before, but is it me or do these two have very similar rear-ends now.

Well, they are based on the same platform.

The rears are almost identical. Good looking rear for sure, but very very similar.

Uh, I realize that, but does that mean the styling has to be so similar that it's mistaken for a GC.

Well I don't think a Durango is a re-badged GC do you? Here is a quote from that link you attached.

"Badge engineering is now common, but it should not be confused with platform sharing within a company. Platform sharing is different from rebadging, as an automobile platform may be used in many different ways and applications, such as using a single platform to produce and sell a sedan and a sport utility vehicle. Two such products are different vehicles, whereas badge engineering involves the sale of essentially a single vehicle."

If platform sharing can produce a sedan and a SUV then I don't think the two rear-ends need to look as similar as the Durango and GC do.

Saw one of the new Durango's in the same Mineral Gray color as my Overland. It's a good looking vehicle, but apart from a similar tail I wouldn't mistake it for a Jeep. Hope it sells well.

Yes I understand I had an 2008 GMC Acadia before the jeep which as you said is a re-badged Saturn Outlook or the Chevy version, but I didn't think the Durango was a re-badged jeep. Firstly the Durango is a three-row vehicle. The only point I was making was the Jeep is a very distinct brand and I was surprised how much the Durango looked like it from the back.

i was next to one on the freeway this weekend. rear end looks extremely similar, but thats it. side profile and front end are very different. I think they did a good job with the Durango.
