questionable tires...
I recently got new tires for my jeep and am not sure I made the right choice and as a result am afraid I'm getting less gas mileage. I drive a 2000 Grand Cherokee with the 4.0L 6 and is a two wheel drive. The new tires I got are nexen roadian 245 75/R16 but, here's where I think I made the mistake, they're E- rated tires. I was told the mileage life I would get would be higher than standard tires because of the weight of my vehicle but gas mileage never came up. Did I make the wrong choice on tires for this vehicle or can I make these work and somehow increase the gas mileage?

Thanks for any feedback

Re: questionable tires...
I'm not sure the weight of your vehicle matters...those tires are heavy duty! If you're getting the same mileage, there really isn't an issue. New tires don't = better economy. Proper inflation and less agressive tread = better economy. If the tire is heavier that could have an adverse affect too, obviously. But what's the cost? A few nickels at the pump could mean 10k more miles on those heavier duty tires.

Re: questionable tires...
Load Range E's are heavy tires! Not great for gas mileage! My winter tires are load range E's and they just kill the mileage in my XJ. I love being able to throw my summer tires on and my MPG just skyrocket.

I get the feeling my load range Es are going to last a long time too, even after 2 winters I barely see any signs of wear on them...........
