Is this right? ('02 Sport with 4.7 H.O.)

Just cruising autotrader for WJ's, and came across this interesting piece. WJJeeps makes no mention of the US market sport(I remember detailing them at the Jeep dealer I worked at in '02), nor can I find any literature to support that the Sport's were available with the 4.7 H.O. It definitely has the right resonator and intake tube to be a H.O.... strange.

I bet with that kinda mileage that it's the second motor...so it might actually be an HO. That air intake is definatley off an HO.

Other than that, looks like a Laredo to me with an engine swap. If I were you, I'd find the serial or stamping on the motor and run it to make sure it's an HO, and not a standard 4.7 with an HO intake

Yeah, it has an "N" as the 8th digit in the vin, meaning regular 4.7. "J" would indicate a factory H.O. It definitely has all the right air intake parts.

Anyone in the nearby area want to go check that thing out for me? I'd actually consider it if it's a H.O. swap, especially if it doesn't have a sunroof.

Sports were sold in the US, iirc it should have 3.91 gears.

I doubt it's a HO.. Probably just put the filter box and such on it...

I doubt its a real HO but if its got the HO heads then you might be lucky. You can also use a borescope to see if the pistons are dome shaped and drop the oil pan to see if the crank is forged or not. but that last one is a bit of work.

On a modern motor, 175k miles is a lot but not something that's unheard of for an engine. I hope to get 300k out of my motor.

if its local, go see it. The H.O. heads have H.O. stamped on them at the front. there's not mistaking that

Didnt know a sport model existed, but a quick edmunds and cars.com search showed it. Looks like it was a base model, but that one you're looking at is highly optioned. I'd go check it out, it has 3:73 gears, a dana 44, and the regular 4.7. Got my info from here:

Trying to find the HO stamp is a pain in the ass.. I have a factory HO and it's really tight trying to find it on the front of the heads...
