I'm pretty sure it brought mine down, I liked hearing all that air being sucked into the engine!

same here... my K&N really didnt do much for MPG.. maybe 1-2, it mainly gave the motor a nice growl at WOT. But once i installed the Liberty Upper Pipe i saw my MPG go up atleast 3-4mpg on the highway and a really nice increase in throttle response.

Re: Air intake

In my experience with my 5.7L putting on a CAI provides a horsepower gain and a throaty sound but will not necessarily increase MPG's. Some have already stated that they have seen a measurable increase in mileage, I am just saying that I didn't with my engine. If you do get a boost in MPG's consider it a bonus but don't expect to see one and make that your reasoning for purchase. With that said I am happy with my CAI and would not go back to the stock system.

what about your intake is any different than stock? if you think it made that big of a difference, wouldnt they be factory installed?? they are there for sound lol i only bought one because it was cheaper than changing the stock filter every few oil changes

Now lets be serious. If "if you think it made that big of a difference, wouldnt they be factory installed??" WHY would we do anything to jeeps/any car at all?!?!?!? intakes, exhaust, TB's, cams, heads, cylinders(the list goes on...) The factory makes the cars/trucks/jeeps only to run.,not for performance.

K&N has proven dynos to show a HP increase across the board. WHY would anyone pay $300+ dollars for a SOUND..........

If you notice that the stock air box has an itsy bitsy straw it pulls air through. the "SOUND" it makes is the simple fact that the intake is obviously IN TAKING more AIR!! :D

i guess this car was not made for performance either, because it has the same type of air intake as 99.9% of all vehicles that are mass produced
http://www.caroverload.com/blog/wp-c...era-engine.jpg

the ribbed intake tube dampens the sound, aftermarket intakes do not have built in dampeners so they are louder. they have nothing to do with more air getting in. even if more air entered, the engine is programmed to run a specific way, it would re-adjust itself after a few miles.
