4200 miles and ...

... all is well. No problems so far.
Took on first vacation this weekend. 200 miles to the shore. 500 miles total. Did some mild off roading... dirt trails through the woods with large water filled holes and tops of large boulders sticking way up. Did not need low range, but went 2 -3 mph. I do not have skid plates, but know enough to drive up on the tops of the rocks rather than have them pass under chassis. I was proud of myself to make it to a nice view of ocean. We found a place to park off the trail, got out and then another vehicle came by... a $120,000 Maserati Gran Turismo! "Are you f*ing kidding me?" I guess I am the only one impressed with my off road skills!

LOL! That does remind me though ... some years back I took my BMW M5 up Mt Graham in SE Arizona. The road up is paved - it becomes well-graded dirt once you reach the upper mountain road. Mt Graham is one of a number of summits all fairly close together - the road wanders for miles up there, without going to the actual summits.

Back in that time, it was still possible to go up one of the summit roads - it had a lot of rocks, but they weren't too big and so I carefully picked my way up for the couple of miles to the top of 10,000 ft+ Heliograph Peak.

There's a fire tower up there - I climbed the tower and the ranger let me in. He looked down at my car and observed dryly: "We don't get too many BMWs up here."
