day time running lamps on 2011 GC Overland

Hi all,
When I have my blinker on the daytime running lamp on said side turns off and turns back on when blinker is off. Does anyone else find this weird?

It's a legal requirement in some jurisdictions, including Canada.

Its a safety feature. All Chrysler vehicles have been doing it for years. Even my 2005 has that feature.

Nothing wrong with that feature at all.

Audis do the same thing...

It is part of the US National Highway Transportation Safety Administration Regulations for Vehicles.

The deactivation of the daytime running light is only a requirement if the distance from the edge of the DRL and the centre of the turn signal are within 100mm (about 4 inches) of each other. That's why it is not always done on different vehicles.

Re: day time running lamps on 2011 GC Overland

All passenger vehicles delivered in Canada, since 1989, are required to have daytime running lights. Initially this was implemented by running the front headlights at 40% during daytime. Automatic lighting system handled this with sensors. If your vehicle did not have automatic light control turning on the ignition and stating the engine caused the lights come up to 40% without any driver interaction. When the driver activated the headlight on switch the lights went from 40% to 100%. In recent years car manufacturers have implemented different and innovative approaches to meet this requirement. For example, I have seen new vehicles that use a line of high intensity led lights in the front bumpers to act as daytime running lights. Recently, additional safety features have been implemented such as turning down the front and rear lights on the side of the activated turn signal for the duration of the turn signal operation. Another feature is turning on the headlights to full brightness when the windshield wipers are activated.
