Engine cooling problem
 
93k miles should i change the belt?
last night i was driving temp running at normal. nice and cool.
then i parked. we come back in about 20 mins. i start her up needle moves to a little pass middle likes she is over heating as i have her in reverse. i'm with a girl so i dont panic. turn off a/c and put her in drive and start moving. needle quickly goes back to the middle( never stays there). normal postion is below the middle.

should i change the thrmostat? is that going bad? belt slipping? but it wasnt making a squeeling noise.
water pump going bad?

it hasnt dont it sense. dont want to get caught with my pants down.

When I bought my Jeep last year with 117K I didn't have your problem, BUT I noticed that my coolant was gettting lower and lower everyday. I found out it was the Water Pump. So I decided it was time to replace that. I hired a guy off craiglist to do a FULL COOLANT FLUSH, Change the T-Stat and to Change the Water-Pump for a sweet price. I bought all OEM Parts also.

FIrst check your Fluid Level. Then check to see if it starts doing it again. How hot was it when it did this?

i would check your thermostat, it might be stuck. is your coolant level low?

Its louisiana, so it was a good 95 outside not including heat index. Hoping its thermostat. i wanted to ask you alls opinion before i did anything to make sure. thank you!

Coolant isnt low, and i dont smell any burnt coolant. hoping its a bad stock thermostat and ordering a 180 to fix it.
hoping its a cheap fix. first and only time its done this. thank you dude!

Your serpentine belt is due for changeout every 60K miles. At 93K, it's overdue unless you know that it was changed at the first 60K miles interval. Not saying this is the cause of your symptoms, but keep it in mind as something to be done.
The coolant should be flushed and changed at 5 yrs / 100K miles. Use MOPAR HOAT formulation. Your antifreeze can be tested for protection to -50F, which also gives a raised boiling point by altering the colligative properties of the solution. However, the anti-corrosive additives will probably be gone by now, so a change is in order very soon.

If your '05 HEMI is like my '08, it has a hydraulic cooling fan (powered from the power steering pump and a solenoid valve to actuate it) and this might not have kicked in initially when your were backing out of the space as the power steering was drawing the power from the pump.

I notice that it's somewhat "anemic" when the Jeep first starts, it's turning as I start moving and the A/C unit is running. Normal operation after I get started forward. Similar to that which you reported. These HEMI's do not have a "fixed" idle speed, rather the PCM computer sets a "target" idle speed based on conditions. I've watched the engine load (on the DashDAQ) with and without A/C running. It jumps dramatically when the A/C clutch kicks in.

Ordering a new thermostat today.
how hard is it to change that belt, do you know?
Thats what i was thinking since its one belt for everything.
how should i do the flush?

the belt is very easy to change, i bought a belt change kit from harbor freight. it comes with a long flat tool to release the tension in the belt, much easier than a long ratchet. only takes a few minutes to change.
