High Mileage SRT8. Good buy?

I've been searching around for an SRT8 for a while now, and just came across an 06 with 134,500 miles. According to the listing, all paperwork and documentation is provided with the vehicle, and all service has been performed by a certified Jeep dealership. There are a couple blemishes in the paint, and the wheels would need to be refinished due to some curb rash, but otherwise it looks good. The guy is asking $19,500, but the KBB value comes it at about $17,100. I was going to try to talk him down, but from the looks of the listing, he's pretty firm on price and not in a rush to sell.

So my big question through all of this is how worried should I be about a high mileage performance vehicle? I know a large number can be scarier than it really is if maintenance has been done regularly and the vehicle as been taken care of. But I'm weary of how this vehicle could have been driven. And that's a lot of miles of beating on a car and a motor. I would only consider the deal if he would come down at least to blue book value, but even then, would it be worth it?

Any help is greatly appreciated as I am trying to make my way into the SRT8 community. Thanks in advance!

You've gotta read this from a website from someone who is very knowlegeable about Grand Cherokees and works for Jeep. It's specifically about what to look for and what to know about buying a used Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8.

I would have the drivetrain looked at by an SRT mechanic. There are dealers that have them. Check for maint. records etc. Look for plenty of alignments etc. Check to nmake sure the drivetrains fluids have been changed in the correct intervals. This is very important with the SRT's transfer case for instance.

i say $14,999 and you got a deal....pull the motor, buy a 426 and install for like $10 and call it a day.

Like Scott said get all that stuff checked but still that is a lot of miles. Given we tend to drive these things kinda spirited to say the least that may be some harder than usual miles. Not sure where you're located but I'd think you'd be able to find some other choices. Good luck and I hope you get one soon.

I've been involved in communication with a lot of people since I posted this. To cover what was already brought up, I just got a picture of the receipt from the last service on the vehicle. It was done less than 1000 miles ago, and included a fluid change in the transfer case and the axles.

I've also spoken to High Horse Performance. They have a shop in SC and a shop in DE, and they seem to know what they're doing when it comes to Hemi motors. I have talked to guys at both shops, and both have had the same opinion. As long as the service records are all there and accurate, and there has not been any work done to the motor, it should not be a bad buy at all. From what I hear, these motors hold up, as do the transmissions.

If I was to get this vehicle, I'd probably set up a tune shortly after the purchase. That way I will not only have better performance, but it'll let me make sure that everything is running right with the motor.

I say let him keep it. He wants $2,400 more than book for a vehicle with 134,000 mi. I guarantee if you wait you'll find a better deal.

Don't do it. Trust me. You'll find a better deal with lower mileage.
