Thule 1800XT (687BXT) fitment - pics attached

Finally broke down and ordered my Thule box from Amazon. Great deal at $536 delivered to my door (2 day through Prime account no less).

Anyway, here are a few pics for those that would like to know how it looks and fits. Net of it is; I can open the glass hatch fully, I cannot open the door hatch fully, and I think it fits the dimensions of the car overall pretty well. Most importantly, I can fit my skis in it come winter, something I wasn't sure I would be able to do with the 1600. I'm fine with the hatch not opening as I think I can make do with either opening the glass hatch or holding the big hatch if needed...YMMV and you should decide whether that is important to you or not. Meanwhile the box will be getting a workout while we go camping soon.

Also note rock rails which I did a separate write up on previously. Oh yeah, just detailed the Jeep and the box with Meguiar's NxT...pretty good stuff. Not quite Zaino, but good in a pinch.

P.S. While I like the look of the Thule better, I can appreciate the design of the Yakima in that it curves up in the rear, this same size box would probably fit were that the case here.

Wait a minute...hold the phone. Think I may have a way to make it fit. It is adjusted all the way forward but I have the rear bars at the rearmost position...should be able to squeeze it forward a few inches and have all be well with the door hatch...stay tuned.

Better news...I got some adjustment out of the racks such that the box fits...it touches ever so slightly.

I'm pretty good at lifting stuff but this took 2 people.

I think the Mopar racks are lower than the Thule.

I have an Atlantis 1800 which I used on my old WK. We did a X-country with it and it was a pain to hold the hatch every time you'd arrive at a motel and the same when you'd leave.

Now that I have just gotten the Mopar racks I am most interested in the tweaking you have done. Can you please elaborate a tad more and maybe put some additional pictures of the gig after the final adjustments? Thanks!

GTOGreg what kind of millage are you getting with the box? I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on a 2012 5.7

GTO Greg,
Sorry for bringing the old thread back to life?
How is the 1800 working for you? Do you regret the size (interference with the tail gate)?
Are you happy with the mopar's compared to the thule arero? (if you can make that comparison)
Does the 1800 interfere with reception on your Sat radio (sirius)?

Thanks!

No regrets here at all. I couldn't have used a shorter one - I need it for my skis in the winter, and it just did hold enough for all our camping trips this summer. It is a Thule unit, not Mopar. I'm not sure of the other units and how this would compare. It fits to my satisfaction, looks great (subjectively anyway), and doesn't interfere with mileage too much. We have it off now until ski season, at which time we'll mount it back (for weekend trips, day trips will get the powderhound 6 ski rack). It's not that it's heavy, but it is bulky and will take two people to R&R. no interference with Satellite radio. I'm using the aero antenna mod (forgot what it's called).

Hey GTO! Have you seen post #6? I have the same setup as you which I will be using in a few weeks. Any additional tips you can provide?

Hey there. Dont really have any other tips, other than when you put the "claws" that clamp on the crossbars on, that you move the unit as much forward as possible and keep forward pressure on the unit while you cinch it down. You wil have to play with the front and back claws to figure out what combination will give you the best clearance to the liftgate. Be sure to use 2 people to load (taller is better). It's really not that big of a deal. I don't even think mine touches at all any more, if anything it might just "kiss" it, but it certainly doesn't leave a mark or anything like that.

Hope this helps. You'll love the versatility of the box!

Thanks GTO! I used the same 1800 on the old WK and it did leave a mark on the hatch hence my concern. Thanks again.
