Potential issue with BWoody Sway bars on 4wd

1 Attachment(s)
From a 5.7, 4wd OL, owner:

I just installed my BWoody Sway bar links and noticed a potential issue. When the front wheel is turned all the way to the stops I noticed that the rubber boot over of the axle rubs firmly against the top of the sway bar. See pic. My first thought is this may eventually tear/rub a hole in the boot as it turns and lead to some costly issues.

I know the wheel is not cocked out too often but I thought I'd pass this one on so everyone is informed, better to catch it earlier than later. Bottom line monitor you little rubber booties...

since they dont change the geometry or length i would ASSUME the oem hits there as well. it just doesnt have that bolt head there??????

perhaps a smooth head bolt an allen might be a good idea.

Actually, the stock unit has half the width, at the bolt location, that the Bwoody item does and it's smooth on the side that would possibly come in contact. Based solely on this picture my guess is the stock part does not come in contact with the boot.

Here you go. The factory part does not make contact. It's close but it just misses.

Also note that it's only close on ORII mode so only when the suspension is extended.

In fact, with my recent order, the BWoody sway link kit came with four Allen head bolts complete with nylock hex nuts and two washers for each bolt. This is a change from the hex head bolts previously used.

I have not yet installed them.

I checked mine and it hits the same as the above posted pic. I would think Mike would send out upgraded bolts to those of us who have already purchased the links which, were supposed to work with Quadra Lift suspension. What say you?

Hmm, glad you caught this. If they changed the design they are obviously aware of the problem and should send out update kits to customers. Going to check mine now...

My non-Quadralift Laredo X has at least a 1/4" of space between the bolt head and the boot so no issues here. It actually has more clearance than the OEM links shown in mjw's ORII pics so looks like this is only an issue for QL equipped WK2's

Re: Potential issue with BWoody Sway bars on 4wd

Since my previous Post#5 above, further developments. The parts sent to me were not correct. Turns out the Allen head bolts I received were part of the sway link set for the 2005-2010 WK, NOT the WK2 set which I ordered. The WK2 set arrived recently and they still have hex head bolts.
