I'm going to Plasti-Dip my 22's

I know there are a million threads about Plast-Dipping stuff, not only on this forum but just about every car enthusiast forum. But... I haven't seen anyone Plasti-Dip wheels like mine. It's always stock wheels or aftermarket wheels that aren't anything like mine, actually I haven't seen anyone go over chrome wheels at all.

My wheels have inserts that are paint matched to my Jeep and I plan on leaving them red. having inserts that screw into the wheel will leave twelve 1/4" holes per wheel that I will need to plug, I was thinking of sticking Q-Tips in all the insert holes? Can anyone think of something better to use?

I also just purchased a Mopar lower front lip from a member on here. it's painted dark khaki, I was thinking about Plasti-dipping it too until I can afford to have a few things painted matched (lip, front bumper respray, mopar side steps, mirror covers, door trim.) But with my black side skirts I don't think it will look to bad for a temporary fix!

I'm taking the lift and off road wheels off tomorrow and installing Bilsteins and H&R's and my 22's.

I'll attach a couple pictures of my wheels and a picture of my Jeep with the Mopar running boards so you could get an idea of wheat it would look like with a black mopar lip.

Also, I bought 3 cans of Plasti-dip, think that is enough to do the wheels and lip? I'm doubting it. I want a nice think coat so it will peel off easier when I decided to take it off.

Nice can't wait to see how it's gonna look. My stock 17s are plasti-dipped and I love em. I'd buy a 4th can just in case. I off road all the time and my wheels are holding up great. Even if I need to touch it up, it blends well. I sprayed 4 coats on mine including my spare. Good luck and take pics.

I didn't think plasti-dip was as durable it is until last night when I watched some youtube videos of people power-washing them at close range with no problems!

Yea after I play in the dirt, I scrub that sh!t off w a power washer, and a lil brush if need be. Still holding up perfectly. Again, if I have to touch up, it blends perfectly. When it was detailed, the guys armoralled it and it looks great...but the armorall attracts more dirt. ;)

How about pulling it off, my wheels have those little rivet things, think it will just pull off? I dont want to have to pick it all out with a toothpick on every one! haha

JeepCoop 06-16-2011 01:31 PM

It's not like a sticker, I wish!!! It's not too hard, just takes some patience and slow pealing. The rivets may be a lil harder to do, but you'll figure it out. Def take your time paintings em. Start w a light coat and build you way up. I did 4 coats on mine. And mine are those chrome clad wheels and I've had no issues. :D

Hey I was looking at your avartar, I see you are supporting my old Hockey Team I hope they do good for you and last alot longer than they did in Atlanta,Ga. Dumb Ass owners. I would not touch your wheels with that stuff they look great. One more thing the lower bumper insert came from my jeep when Tgg bought my front and rear bumpers.

Go Thrashers oh Go Jets
