Sea Foam Treatment
Since no one has really done a review in the review section of Sea Foam ill give my impressions of the stuff. Yesterday I changed my spark plugs and while I was there I cleaned out the throttle body, after that I noticed some smoke for a few minutes and it popped into my head to try out sea foam.
I went down to advanced auto this morning and bought two bottles and a small funnel for 22$ total. I stopped on the way home and filled my tank so that I could pour some in the gas and then it was ready to go.
I started off with 3 quarters a can in the gas tank (done because the bottle says one ounce per gallon, 16 ounce bottle just about covered the tank). Then I poured a third of a can into the oil fill cap. Next up was the hardest (and by hard I still mean very easy) part of the job, the vacuum line. On my 4.7 the line is up against the fire wall running from the brake booster to the throttle body, its even labeled vacuum, pop that off with some twisting and pulling and then I attached a funnel to the end.
Now you start the truck and you will hear the suction, no big deal don't be worried that's supposed to happen. Then slowly, and I mean SLOWLY, pour about half a can in, just let it sip at the fluid because if you do to much at once you will bog down the engine and it will stall. Once your done, shut off the engine, re attach the hose and wait 20 minutes.
After the 20 minute waiting, I went out and started it up, no smoke. I let it run for about 20 seconds and then started revving it, and holy crap was there smoke! It BILLOWED out non stop every rev for almost three minutes. I smoked up my whole front yard, the street, and some of the neighbors place! He even came out to make sure there was no fire! Once the smoke calmed down I took it for a drive and it poured out more smoke! It wouldn't stop, so after about a mile I turned out and go on the gas good and what do ya know, more smoke! Finally got home and it was just about done smoking. Ill update with my driving impressions after I put some miles on it after the sea foam, but judging by all the smoke id say it cleaned her out pretty well!
I give it a thumbs up! For 10$ a bottle and a half hour of time its a very easy way to clean up your engine! Oh and by the way, my jeep sits at 80,000 miles, so it had some build up!

Re: Sea Foam Treatment
Haha thanks! I ran some errands and then used the little bit that was left in the can and put it through the vacuum line again, and it smokes alot again but not as bad. It seems to idle smoother and i feel that it revs smoother. Very happy!

Do it, I was hesitant cause I wasn't sure about the vacuum line but once you find it its super easy! I'm gonna buy a can and put a 3rd of a can in each full tank of gas

Re: Sea Foam Treatment
I do 1/2 can in the oil 500 mi before a change the other half in the tank.Never did the vacuum line thing though, gonna try that. 4.7s are notorious sludge motors though I think the rep comes from oil change neglect more than anything. All I know is my tb stays clean(never cleaned it in 66,000 mi.),my oil stays cleaner between changes and that white gunk in the oil fill tube is all but gone. cheap insurance for a 4.7 in IMO.
