Holy tail lights!

What a pain in a**! I'm about to give up on these LED tail lights for my 08. I see a bunch of old threads and posts about modifications on wiring harnesses to make WH tails 100% P&P with WK, but does anyone know who CURRENTLY does this service? All the threads to the vendor Jason (lips?) guy are so old and no traffic.

Really....that would be great. To add to my frustration the halo projectors that I just paid a professional to install, don't fit! They were almost finished with the HID and halo install...just putting the bumper back on and realized the lights are square on the bottom and my bumper has the 2 humps that fit my stock lights. I went online and found some halos that are like my stocks. So now I get to try and return my halos.!

Btw.... Portage, IN (northwest Indiana)

Looking into it.

I'm working on tracking down the connectors for the '05 and the '07+.

<EDIT> I've found the part numbers for the connector kits. Now I have to get pricing.

I'll be looking at the workshop manuals for both.

I don't want to step on anyone's toes, at this point. If these are available, let Lips work his magic  If there is a need in the market, I'll work on filling it :headbang:

Thanks everyone! I appreciate all of your help. I have my new halo projectors installed (they look great) and the place where I bought my old halos gave me a full refund:)

All I'm waiting on now is the mods for my tails...so I'll wait for you guys to do your magic! After that I thinking about upgrading my air intake and exhaust system. I'll have to start looking around this forum for similar performance mods!

Thanks again.

Are you trying to wire the 05-07 LED aftermarket tail lights for the 08 sockets seeing how the 05-07 have three bulbs and the 08 only has two??

JeepCoop 07-02-2011 10:57 PM

I need a harness too. I have an 07 and bought LEDs that need the harness too. Lips hasn't emailed me back yet either

Re: Holy tail lights!

If you are wanting to know how the LEDs for the 05-07 models need to be wired for the 08 configuration for 100% p&p, here's the break down of how to wire them. What you need:

The tail lights
Sealant (we used window sealant)
Reverse bulb sockets- ordered from Jeep
Brake/Turn/Parking light sockets- also from Jeep
And soder

Okay for all 4 light bulb sockets it cost me here in Ohio $53.

Once you have the lights and the sockets you're ready to start. The aftermarket LED lights come wired for the 05-06 Jeeps. So they have one plug adaptor with wires seperated between a reverse, a brake, and a turn. Our jeeps 07-08 are set up for a reverse and a brake/turn.

1.) Cut the adaptor off the aftermarket lights.

2.) Do the reverse wiring first. Its the easiest. Take the bulb out of the socket. One side of the socket will have the place the lock is when plugged into the main car's wiring. That side you will soder the black ground wire to the inside metal part where you would plug the bulb into. Leaving the white power wire to be sodered to the other metal part. Make sure those two are not sodered so the metal connects both sides. If you slightly turn the 'male' end on the side that will connect to the car's plug, they straighten and slid out the back. You may slid them out and do the sodering, then slid them back in; turning the end back to how it was.

3.) For the other lights it's pretty easy as well. You'll notice the socket has two seperate colors. The part the bulb plugs into does come off. Once that is taken off there are 3 metal parts inside. You want to pull those up- we pulled them up at 90 degree angles at different spots so they all weren't the same. It's easier to keep them sodered seperately that way. The sockets are stamped minor, major, and ground. The ones i got from the dealership were stamped in reverse as to the major and ground were each other.

4.) The turn light consists of 2 wires. A YELLOW and a BLACK. The yellow is the power/major and the black is the ground.

5.) The brake/parking consists of a RED, a GREEN, and a BLACK. Agian the black is ground and the red is power/major and the green is the minor.

6.) Of the 3 metal parts that you bent, the green gets sodered in the center/minor. The 2 black wires get sodered together to the metal piece bent on the side of the socket with the little clip latch which you can see in the picture is the piece that locks when plugged into the car. The yellow and red wires get sodered together on the opposite side. Once those are done, run a test on it and plug it into the car and make sure it works. If the brake, parking, turn and reverse all work you're good to go. Just fill the sockets in with sealant. Be careful tho as the bigger sockets contain a small hole the sealant will ooze out of and you don't want it getting to where the 'male' ends are that plug into the main car's adaptor.

If all works just plug them back in once sealant is dry and you're good to go. If you have any other questions about it feel free to ask.
